Integral Panel 2022, Diane Musho Hamilton, Jeff Salzman & Steve McIntosh

Integral philosophy has been a big influence on many of Rebel Wisdom's guests over the years. So we brought together three key figures, meditator and mediator Diane Musho Hamilton, the host of the popular Daily Evolver podcast Jeff Salzman and the author of the book Developmental Politics, Steve McIntosh.

They talked about how the integral map can help make sense of the responses to the pandemic, we discussed Jordan Peterson and the Intellectual Dark Web, and also responded to recent critiques of developmental thinking from the likes of Nora Bateson.

This was a dialogue and Q&A with Rebel Wisdom members in our Digital Campfire.

I don’t always agree with all your takes but the fact that I consistently find your videos insightful, frustrating, interesting, aggravating, intelligent, challenging, and thought provoking, means that for my money you’re doing something of great value here.

That was very captivating and entertaining! The phase that got stuck with me is that "our grandkids will be rolling their eyes at our culture wars"! Amen to that! Xoxo

Jordan Peterson is a very complex character, his public personality is constantly changing/evolving. I’m afraid a lot of the comments made about him refer to someone who doesn’t exist anymore or has changed into someone that would tackle things differently now.

This conversation is an excellent example of how some of the greatest luminaries in the Integral community can be oblivious to their own blind spots and fixations; but most of all, arrogance. It truly amazes me to see that even someone like Diane M. Hamilton can sound exactly, word by word, like Robin DiAngelo; and she takes pride in it.

*Steve McIntosh's book 'Integral Consciousness'* is a fantastic supplementary study for anybody who has already enjoyed Wilber and wants to work laterally - often recommending McIntosh as the next step if somebody has read Wilber's 'A Brief History of Everything' + 'Integral Psychology'!

I'm probably getting ahead of the discussion, but wanted to write this down before I forget it.

How much of JBP's perceived anger 2017-2020, was due more to personal issues, than actually having issues against Green?

To me, he seems to have turned a corner, so to speak, and if memory serves, one of his new rules in his latest book is, Don't casually denigrate institutions, or something like that, i.e., Chesterton's Fence.

He also seems to have been diligently discussing spiritual themes with people like Jon Pageau and John Vervaeke, which to me point to a change in view to a more integral view.

Outstanding work. The automatic impulse of the guests to steel man before each critique is wonderful to see. As is their ability to clearly separate out and articulate the shadow side of each "stage" from the positive aspects it brings to the table. Thanks for yet another piece of excellent content.

What a dynamic and heartfelt intelligent conversation by four leading integral -- in-tegg-ral :) -- leaders. Of course people are going to react because people tend to gravitate to their preferred level of awareness, their own worldview, which is why these types of conversations are SO IMPORTANT. Notice how well they respect and integrate EVERYONE'S WORLDVIEW and better, they are willing to adapt to include others... but they also encourage US ALL to continue evolving and growing in consciousness. Think integral, BE integral, turn to the Beautiful, the True, and the Good.

Fantastic conversation. Nora’s statement surprises me, but it was a great point to focus on.

Thank you for this presentation. Bringing the higher qualities of all sides of an issue together at a level beyond the confusion and conflict associated with each separately seems so sensible and certainly inclusive of all points of view. Each must be willing to suspend judgment of the other and to lay aside the divisive aspects of their individualistic perspectives. There is a great teaching available in the world to assist humanity into a future "unlike the past." This comprehensive message offers the possibility of a greater level of integration both personally and collectively than the world has experienced in its history. It has come from a Source beyond this world and has been received by a man, Marshall Vian Summers. Marshall has devoted his life to bringing this message, designed to bring the disparate aspects of living in a physical universe into a coherent whole that addresses humanity's evolutionary journey and provides a pathway forward into the future through Knowledge. "Knowledge represents your True Self, your True Mind and your True Relationships in the universe. It also possesses your greater calling in the world and a perfect utilization of your nature, all of your inherent abilities and skills, even your limitations, all to be given for good in the world." This quote comes from Steps to Knowledge, The Book of Inner Knowing which was received by Marshall in the Spring of 1989, one of many texts/revelations revealed to him over the last 39 years. He goes on to write in the introduction to this text:
"Our world is at the threshold of emerging into a Greater Community of intelligent life in the universe around us. Therefore, a more universal understanding and perspective on relationships, spirituality and human advancement are needed at this time... This is the greatest threshold that we have ever faced. Yet from a Greater Community perspective, it is clear that humanity is not prepared. This has set the stage for a new spiritual understanding and teaching to be given to the world, for the Creator would not leave us alone and unprepared for our emergence into the Greater Community. Thus a spiritual preparation of a very unique kind has been given which can enable men and women to gain the power, the compassion and the skill needed to serve a world in transition."

I have only recently heard of Ken Wilber's theories, but after listening to this panel discussion, I suspect there is a lot in them that is desperately needed by parents of trans-identifying kids. When the worldview of a parent and a child diverge over what is real about the identity of that child, to the degree that that child is determined to permanently change his/her body (especially within the context of a medical establishment ready and willing to make that possible even for minors), the need for parent and child to transcend their differences and come to a peaceful connection that application of integral theory promises is extremely urgent right now. We parents need someone like Diane Musho Hamilton to help us save our connection to our kids, to somehow lessen the pain and alienation that is driving so many of them to seek solace in the dream of remaking themselves into someone else with a complete immersion into a fiction, supplemented by drugs and surgery.

This was an excellent attempt at sense making.

Thank you for this content, it really makes a difference.

I think more material like this (panel discussions of this kind) could be very helpful to a good number of people.

Always affirming to see all of us in the former gang (I was a fringe member, an integral theory nerd, I seriously doubt any of these folks would remember me ) gravitate to the same channels...

21:25 - Paraphrased- "Seeing the other world views through their pathologies." That needed a pause to really let that sink in.

When it comes to the Spiral Wilber builds on Beck and Cowan, who build on Dr Clare Graves (a bloke) who builds on Jean Gebser. We're talking about Second Tier although this month has echoes of 1939...

Is magenta, red, amber, orange and then green suppoed to represent progress and improvement? If so, then LOL.
