Mad Max Fan Recreates Original Interceptor Car
Barcroft Cars - The Home Of Amazing Car Stories Online

A movie-loving petrolhead has spent $125,000 to create his dream car – the Mad Max Interceptor. Michigan born Dale Walter, 50, fell in love with the powerful vehicle when he watched George Miller's seminal film over thirty years ago in a tiny theatre, where he told his friend 'someday I will own that car'. The famous car has featured in three of filmmaker Miller's four pictures, including the latest Mad Mad: Fury Road, starring British actor Tom Hardy in the title role. In 2008, Dale commissioned specialist company Mad Max Cars to convert his 1972 Australian Ford Falcon into the iconic Interceptor – a process which took five years and $125,000.

I think what's even more impressive than the car is that he's maintained a friendship with that one guy he saw the movie with for over 30 years.

" My life fades, my vision dims.
All that remains are memories.
I remember a time of chaos, ruined dreams, this wasted land.
Most of all, I remember the man we called Max, the road warrior. "

Impressed that he even imported a 72 Falcon from Australia.

As a motorcyclist, my worst fear is seeing this guy in my rear view mirror.

I like how he's honest. Priceless until someone offers an insane number. At some point you're not only making a profit but also have enough to make another.

This is perhaps the most accurate recreation of the Interceptor ever.

As an Aussie Mad Max fan living 10kms away where the filmed most of the orig, I’ve seen a couple of Interceptors around. When I clicked on the thumbnail I totally expected an Aussie accent and thought “alright, you don’t see many but looks clean and well done”. Then, it’s “fark me a yank” big RESPECT. My envy is a high as my respect! It’s not easy to get some base parts of Aussie fords these days and he got em shipped over. Thumbs up mate. Would’ve loved a ride. (Or to get out a Holden HQ and play the role of Nightrider like we used to. Screaming “I am the Nightrider. I’m a fuel injected suicide machine. I am a Damn, I’m gonna watch it again tonight. Thanks dude. Always revvs me up!

You notice he not married, that's why he can afford the car.

Absolute respect to this inspired man for his dedication to this labour of love!

His car looks and sounds phenomenally good and the details are gorgeous!

This is something very else!

When making Fury Road the film had to purchase some 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT's to be Max's car. It's an incredibly difficult car to find in Australia because Americans have purchased every rust heap thats offered up for sale. The XB's they found and multiple were needed were in really poor condition. Honestly in my books the most valuable Mad Max Car is "Razor Cola" also known as "Caltrop #6" in production documents is a heavily modified Ford Falcon XB GT Coupe most notably driven by Slit. It's the most valuable because there is only 1. No duplicates were made as with many of the other Fury Road vehicles.

Worth every penny, can't put a price on living your dream. Nice car, I sunk around 30K into my 68 camaro, and it puts a huge smile on my face every time I drive it.

I saw Road Warrior in the theater in 1981. The opening scene when you see that blower is just iconic.

Congratulations on achieving a dream! Enjoyed watching Mad Max and The Road Warrior back to back at American Cinematic Egyptian theatre a few years ago. Seeing the car on the screen was epic! Once again congratulations!
