Ive never caught flat heads we don’t have them here in the UK but I’ve seen a fair few vids and a lot of people catching them . I’ve certainly never seen one that big or knew they grew those sizes ! Cracking fish Steve well done 👌👍

We just had two weeks at Mallacoota. Iv been teaching my daughter 8 for a while now to catch flathead on plastics. Her best is 82.
Currently sitting at St George’s Basin for Xmas. She is already catching fish 🎣

Long as I live I’ll never catch a meter flatter sadly Steve. The Bar tails we get here in the west just don’t seem to put on the heft that your duskys get on the east coast.
Still a great eating fish to target, but 50cm is a remarkable fish this side of the pizza.

The Squidgy Secrets DVD’s and your How to use soft plastics book my mum and dad got me when I was a teen. They really got me into lure fishing. I must of watched those DVD’s a million times over and over. Miss the OG Bugs, Flick Baits and Shads. Had heaps in my box for well over a decade…All gone now though, even have some of the OG resin jig heads kicking around somewhere

Best session I ever had was as a young teenager with my old man throwing Squidgies black and gold paddle tails. I wanna say 65mm. We had a huge fish kill in the system not long after and I've never seen that many since.

Anytime I'm teaching someone to fish, black n gold paddle tail is always a go-to. Kids love casting and retrieving over sitting still (or trolling) in my experience. Always in with a chance for a flatty.

I find it's worth altering the angle of your action as the lure approaches the boat to adjust for the change in angle created by shortening "the hypotenuse" of the retrieve 'triangle'.

South African here, got plenty of Flathead here as well as Mulloway and Tailor etc, still got plenty of Squidgies in the original packaging bought about 25 years ago 😂❤
