I still remember when I first heard about Herobrine. When I was around 7, I was going over to this families home. I can't remember anyone's name but that's not important. What was important was that there were two kids who lived there and owned Minecraft on an Xbox 360. At the time I didn't own the game so this was the only time I ever got to play it. One time however these kids were showing me their creative world and they told me about some mountains nearby and that "Herobrine" was there. They told me he was dangerous and that I should avoid those mountains. I believed them because I was gullible and I didn't even fully know what he was. Would he hurt me? Would he haunt me? I also remember them playing the game on an old SpongeBob CRT TV in a dark room which I believe enhanced the creepy factor a lot.

Older Minecraft versions really are eerie as hell, great topic to talk about

I rarely see anyone mentioning xbox 360 edition minecraft which is a shame because that's the version I actually grew up on! There was just something so isolating about the small map sizes, especially once you got to the world border. It was fine if it was in an ocean or a body of water but when you approached it on land and you could just see the endless expanse of flat world past the border, an inhospitable place with nothing that you will never be allowed to go...

the fact that all the doors are open is pretty ominous tbh, cool detail to notice!

8:56 that’s him, that’s the guy I saw in my single player non-Xbox Live world when I was little. A pitch black Steve, floating there. I’ll never forget that.

Haven't even finished the video yet but I wanted to tell a quick story about an experience I had on Minecraft on Xbox, even though this was on Xbox One and not 360. This was around 2015 or 2016. Me and my friend from across the street were playing together online, and we ended up making our base in a jungle cave. We're chilling in our cave home, when we start hearing someone or something walking around on the grass on the surface. We get really creeped out and go to see what it is, only to be met with absolutely nothing. Not a mob in sight. Logically, it was a mob that just despawned, but it happened really quick. Its not like it took us very long to get outside.

I've been playing Minecraft since 2012 and have a lot of weird experiences like that. The older versions of the game were especially built different.

I feel like Herobrine just sorta BELONGS on Legacy Console, just because us as kids chalked random glitches up to Herobrine haunting the world, and I think that makes this version all the more charming. Your friends forgetting they placed blocks in certain places, or that they didn’t have a certain item before, was often blamed on Herobrine haunting them, which is pretty funny in all honesty.

1:20 All the open doors look like everyone who used to live there all ran out leaving their doors open because of some unknown danger that forced all of them to leave.

My childhood friend got Minecraft for the 360 pretty much the day it came out, and a few years later, he was showing me his very first survival world that he has stopped playing on out of fear, because he swore it contained Herobrine.

It was definitely a creepy, and off-putting seed, especially the area where he decided to build his haunted manor ahh house. I remember it being very foggy, which only made it more eerie, but that's probably just because the render distance was so low. Anyways, after awhile, one of his friends, (a kid I knew from Elementary, ) joined us, and the three of us continued to play on the world together. While the two of them were off somewhere else, I was happily building my wooden shack, when I noticed someone had placed a sign inside it.

I don't remember exactly what was written on it, but it was along the lines of "get out", or something like that. I immediately assumed it was just one of them messing with me, until I turned around and saw Herobrine standing 10-20 blocks away from my door, staring at me. Literally pissing myself, I just stood there, frozen in fear, until he started deadsprinted towards me. I've never left a game so fast...

Seemingly confused, they asked me why I left the game, and I immediately demanded they tell me which one of them just gave me a heart attack, but neither of them were willing to confess. I never joined that world again, and my friend lost it somewhere along the way after switching Xboxes.

It's important to note that there was a Herobrine skin in the game at the time that anyone could easily switch to, and if cheats were enabled, the host could also make themself invisible. HOWEVER, unless I'm misremembering, the Herobrine skin had it's arms permanently raised up like the zombie skin, and the Herobrine I saw didn't. Furthermore, he didn't have a gamertag over his head, either (but maybe that could be hidden, too, I genuinely can't remember.)

It's been over 10 years, and I'll occasionally question my friend about it, trying to get him to admit it was them just messing with me, but to this day he maintains his innocence, even though we're both now grown adults. Unfortunately, the other friend had since passed away, so I never got the opportunity to ask him. So unless my friend randomly decides to finally come clean one day... But If it really wasn't either of them, who was it? That's the scariest part...

The whole experience has definitely made me question whether or not Herobrine really was just some internet myth, or if at some point, he was very real. Spooky shit.

You should cover that one part of the Tu69 tutorial worlds ice ocean, there you can find the previous tutorial world sunk in the ocean. All the tutorial worlds are kinda weird and unsettling at times especially the early ones, but they kinda mellow out at about tu19 for me.

Every now and then I’ll see a philosophical video about old Minecraft, but you articulated and have shown that old feeling the best with this video. For the youngins; to truly understand the vibe of old Minecraft and to see what people mean when they say it was startling, you just kinda have to play it. This video genuinely gave me that feeling I felt all the time when I was a 9 year old playing Minecraft. The first tutorial worlds feel like you’re a trespasser in a save that somebody forgot about a long time ago, yeah, you can’t shake the feeling that they were expecting you to be there. And maybe that’s because well, it is a tutorial world after all. But just walking around you see so many eerie things. That cross in the ground, a divot in a cliff face that looks just a little bit too dark, or even a white sheep, just poking out at a small angle from behind a tree far away, all these things can give you the chills. And when you said Herobrine caves, I knew exactly what you were talking about before you even showed it. I remember every time I would stumble across one, I would block it off with Oakwood planks with a bunch of signs and make it look boarded up. And I think by doing that I gave myself some of my first ever existential thoughts. Like the realization that I am the one manifesting my own fears of what I might discover by making the creepy places I find even more avoidable. Thanks for this video. You got my subscribe.

I totally agree with the loneliness and isolation in the tutorial spawn world. I remember I used to block myself inside one of the houses in the village in fear of Herobrine coming to get me!

when i was younger i used to LOVE playing this game with my sister on my old xbox 360 pretty late at night and ive had my fair share of disturbing encounters and im here to share any ones i can remember fully

Story 1:
one night when i was just in the living room playing minecraft like normal me and my sis had just set up a nice house at a mushroom biome and made a bridge to get some cows over to it easily we put like 3 cows in a small fenced thingy and it was all fine during the day but when it became night one singular cow remained. i dont know what happened to the other 2 but thats not it this cow was not normal no matter what we did it kept staring at us never looking away not even for a second we were so scared we hid inside the house and slept when it became day it was still the same odd staring cow but now its looking through our windows too. we left the world and was too scared to play that one again.

Story 2:
this takes place in the same location and once again me and my sister but this time we were in the Festive Mash-up pack world and if youve played it you might know that if you dig into the tree theres a long tunnel that goes a few hundred blocks. to us this tunnel was terrifying we had a massive fear that if we went in there herobrine would appear behind us. nothing actually happened in this one but just thought to share this fear we had

Story3:
exact same place and me and my sister once again. this one takes place in a normal world literally nothing different about it however you remember those myths of herobrine? well we believed this one about crosses in the ground and stuff also the one about 2x2 holes or whatever and basically i went into a cave (one of those old cramped ones) becasue my sister was always too scared to go mining so i was basically the miner and everything thats not a builder and i kept going down nearly reaching bedrock until i found a cross in the ground like i mentioned before and i got pretty scared after hearing a cave noise and so we left.
edit: just remembered another story so here it is

Story 4:
This one is slightly more recent (i was still pretty young but id say about 1 or 2 years older) and this time its JUST ME. i was gonna play some minecraft and so i booted up the xbox 360 went onto minecraft and i chose to go into the tutorial world and of course as mentioned in the video the doors were all opened and this freaked me out especially when it became night so i hid in one of these houses BUT when i closed the door about 1 or 2 seconds later they would randomly open back up as if something was trying to get into the house and i blocked off the door only for my blocks to go back into my inventory after being placed all mobs and everything was frozen around me except for this stupid door that kept opening each time. so i got scared and left the world which is basically what i do everytime

thanks for reading this if you did
if you read all this then ur cool

5:44 The most likely reason why his skins were removed is because of licensing issues, he also appeared in promotional material back in the day but they stopped putting him in it for the same reasons.

herobrine was removed because the entire skin pack he was part of was removed due to copyright issues regarding many of the characters in the pack. it’s why multiple packs haven’t come back and the original minecraft skins that were in some of them were rebranded into new packs

I swear on my life when I used to play by myself on my 360 on creative. Sometimes I would see a black figure race across the screen at Mach speed. I will never be able to explain what it was and why it was there. I'd only see for a split second If you blank you'd miss it

After thinking about those open doors more, I think it actually homes in more that you are alone more than you aren't. Think about it.

These small villages must have housed people obviously, but the houses themselves are empty besides for the beds. It makes you think on why they are empty, and why all the doors are open. As you pointed out, people left in hurry. In my mind, it gives me with scenario that something terrible was coming to that area with the small villages, and people had to leave ASAP. This then raises the question on if the thing the people were afraid of has already left, or it's just about to arrive. Gives off the feeling of dread.

Anyway though, good video!
