"'Can you acknowledge that that was a different time?"

Yes, that is the point.

The mistake of the middle class was thinking they were rich and identifying with the rich.

They helped dismantle their own success.

I agree, I live in Switzerland; we have the same wages as our parents but the living costs has sky rocketed.
Our fathers could keep mum home, could buy a house, a car and still buy groceries.
Those things are now impossible

This is crucial context. Understand that the ruling class want a servile, compliant peasant class. The only rights you have are the ones we fight for.

“Poverty is not caused by men and women getting married; it's not caused by machinery; it's not caused by "over-production"; it's not caused by drink or laziness; and it's not caused by "over-population". It's caused by Private Monopoly.” Robert Tressell in The Ragged Trousered Philanthropist.

The man should be a history lecturer. I am a conservative and am impressed with this factual, non biased presentation.

It strikes me that the "different times...technology" argument would work the opposite way. We now need less man-power to provide even more commodities and resources. Meaning it is less expensive to provide more people with more goods. And it's cheaper for the 'industrialists', per this nomenclature, to provide said goods.

Republican Town Hall in Nebraska, chanting tax the rich, two days ago. Wow, keep pushing.

This is a very important message and this guy doesn't need to do this, he is wealthy but talking absolute sense, he is on the button. I really like his approach

We don't owe the rich anything. We've already payed for all their stuff. Tax 'em.

I'm a single dad, with 1 son, 2 bed council house, part of the lucky ones. I have a job paid 11.97£/h. My house, electricity, council tax adds up to about £1000. That is before buying food, insuring my van, fueling it, thinking of eating out or taking a holiday. I have 0 saving, 0 cushion, any bill at the garage means overdraft for a bit. I have no idea what i will do when my 20 years old van will die. I only buy goods and clothes second hands. And i am lucky to have a job and a cheap rent. But no idea what to hope for the futur. Years of financial struggles while working like a dog for near mimimal wages is taking it's toal on my mental health and general hapiness.

I was stuck in the same loop for years. I read "The Architect of Riches" and something finally clicked. I see money differently now. Life changing.

My dad was a mill worker. He gave me what little money he had from his retirement to start a small coffee business. While it’s nominally successful, I have felt the collapse of spending because of the syphoning of money from the lower and middle class (majority of my customers make $30K-$60k). In turn, the rich get richer from my debts. I also take the brunt of the blame and the social guilt/shame of appearing to be successful when I’m barely holding on.

There’s a lot of people like me who want to build wealth and bring people with me while not having to make people poorer. It’s super frustrating trying to get people to realize that small businesses aren’t the enemy.

Anyway, love your content, Gary!

My late dad used to say this. He also said that the progress we have made since WW2 has to be maintained and fought for by each generation, or we lose it as we’re seeing now.

In America your wages are taxed, then you pay tax on everything you buy with the money that has already been taxed. Then in if you live in certain states, you also pay a state tax. If you own property, you pay taxes on that property FOREVER. Even if youve paid the bank back in full, if you dont pay the county the annual tax, they can seize your property. If you get a bonus from work, they take 40% of it from you in tax. If you get a big win like a lotterry, they tax it at about 55%. Yet nobody does anything about this. Nothing.

About time Steven was challenged. Good on him for having Gary on the show.

Totally agree. Knowledge of history tells us where we are heading. It's not a good place.

This is such a fire take. When the length of a moment exceeds the immediate memory of man, it's easy to assume that this is just the way it is now.

I am in the lucky position of being around Gary’s age (a few years older) and in the same socio-economic position. The cognitive dissonance around wealth distribution is huge. I live in the UK and the US now, but grew up in Argentina, which has had a roller coaster of economic policies and a consequent roller coaster of economic experiences since the war. It went from being the richest country on the planet in the post war period to one of the most unequal and corrupt - this within 50 years. He is 100% right. Please support this man and help push his voice into the political conversation.

Gary's view of the world has taught me how to look at things differently.
