I grew up in Mallorca and I've been living in New York for 16 years, honestly I'm thinking of going back, I prefer the boring winter in Mallorca, which is actually peace, because the movement in New York City is very tiring and stressful, the truth is that it all depends From your point of view, thank God I was always surrounded by very good people and I had many friends, we will always find racist people everywhere, they are simply ignorant people!

Good insight into winter living. Friends are really important, the people you know really make or brake your feeling at a Place.
Also don't forget, the mainland is very close. You can always do a weekend trip to Spain, or even go skiing somewhere in Europe in the winter, most destinations are only a 1 hour flight.

I lived in Palma 3 years ago. 1. Mallorca is boring during winter? For sure summertime is much more busy than winter, so it's pretty much correct. 2. Yes. I agree. If you live in Mallorca you MUST have a car or at least a motorcycle. 3. Making friends is really difficult. TRUE! Very true. But, at the end of the day you just need a couple of friends in order not to be alone. So, if you are lucky you might make friends soon. I also think that Mallorca people don't want to make friends coming from abroad.
I travelled a lot in my life. I lived in many different cities and counties, I believe Mallorca in one the best ever, regarding weather, landscape, nature, seaside, etc. One of the best beaches I have ever seen. I now live in Italy and sometimes I dream to go back there.. let's see.. maybe one day

Just came back from ten days in Mallorca. October weather is generally very nice, but is mixed, as there were two stormy days of cold, wind, and lots of rain. The other days were sunny and warm. The hotel I stayed at was closing mid-October, but suddenly decided to close its kitchen one week early and without mentioning to the guests staying at the hotel! They did this to save money as there were less guests in the hotel at that stage, but the hotel was by no means empty and there were still many guests staying there so this was really wrong and unfair. This was unfair to both the kitchen staff and the guests of the hotel, as the serving staff were only paid to turn up for breakfast and not lunch or dinner for the last week and with no advance notice. This year, I found that many restaurants and cafes had reduced their menus or opened only for lunch and not for dinner. I heard at every hotel and cafe and restaurant that they are struggling to get staff, partly because many of the seasonal workers who used to come to Mallorca every year are not coming anymore, because they simply don´t earn enough to cover their basic living expenses, especially renting an apartment (which is way overpriced now in Mallorca). This situation is unsurprising, given how much Mallorca has exploited these workers over the years. In some years, they had to share flats with many others and just had a bed in a room with many others and were paid pitifully by their employers. This has meant that many restaurants including ones at five star hotels cannot get decent and experienced chefs and serving staff and ultimately this is reflected in the quality of the preparation of the food you receive. Lots of mosquitoes too, especially after the rains, so beware of that. I came back covered in mosquito bites. There were loads of mosquitoes in the hotel lobby.

I've been totally aware of all of your cons...Summer on Croatia's coastline is sooo vivid, busy, fun, amazing, sensational beaches, music festivals, parties etc. However, after September everything dies off: so many restaurants and bars are literally open may - oct only

Probably depends on what type of a person you are. I would love the island without the noise and the masses. I don't see the noisy bars and the obnoxious music as "fun". I could live peacefully there. I would love to be there in the winter months. I would explore the natural resources the island has to offer, the animal species, the architecture.

I agree with everything you say. Making friends is close to impossible. I used to be a very social person but now I’m basically a hermit. I decided to move to the country because living in town just means you are surrounded by a bunch of strangers.

i guess it depends on what you're used to or after. your expectations feel based around a city vibe.

it depends on what you are looking for, I lived there and I enjoyed every season in a different way.

Palma is the best place to live all year round. I've been here for 10 years, and lived in different places. Now I'm back in Palma again and it's lovely <3

Great video and gives me a lot to think about. I am not too worried about the quiet Winters, I lived in on the South Coast UK for many years and that can also be considered very seasonal. What about working there though? Do you have any videos on this?

My great great grandfather used to live their in Magaluf Mallorca near Palma during the Spanish Civil when he was 15 one of his cousin was killed as a soldier at the age of 17 during the civil war, so to not get conscripted in the military and get out of the war due to all the Naval battles and World war 2 flaring all over Europe his family had to migrate somewhere else in a Spanish speaking colony near the Americas or the Caribbean so he moved to Cuba in the 1943, where he lived peacefully until Fidel Castro and his communist arrived in his Cuban hometown Santiago de Cuba, and everything was chaos now we’ll never find peace, especially when all my uncles and cousins accept me were drafted into mandatory Communist military service in Cuba but I migrated to the USA in Miami Florida when I was little, and now I’m moving to Texas Houston where 15, 000 Cubans are living in a small community with a bunch of Mexicans.

Hey, liked your video! A lot of the stuff you say is true haha. I was born here and have family in Mallorca but I don’t live here full time - so your experience is really interesting. I’m sorry you feel pretty lonely :( pretty understandable because the local community is pretty tight knit and the contrast between on and off season is pretty drastic. I personally like it myself but it must be different when spending the full year. If you’re gonna make a second video, convenience is another good one. If smth in your house is broken it can sometimes be hard to get ahold of the right people to fix your stove/gas/wifi at the right time. Might be different in Palma but at least that’s my experience. Thx again!

I'm planning to moove to Mallorca and i would like asking you, are you living in the city Palma de Mallorca? Because with over 400.000 residents it's hard to imagine that there is no life in a winter time! Maybe around the island yes, but in Palma not! What do you think about it? Thanks

I'm looking at moving to Mallorca from Ibiza. Surely Mallorca is going to be more lively in winter than Ibiza? 🙂 I'm looking at a house in Santa Eugenia because its not too far from the airport and is off the tourist route. I don't know anyone there, so your video has been helpful. Is a 4x4 preferable for some roads to secluded beaches?

Hi thank you for your video, I am glad I found your channel. I am planning to live in Mallorca from time to time, I have just got an apartment there. I have all my things in Nice, France. Do you think it is possible to rent a car in Mallorca, take the ferry and drive to Nice to fetch like 20 boxes? All the companies that I have contacted charge too much so I am thinking om doing it myself. Thank you.

Beware that crime (including serious crime) is increasing in Mallorca partly due to high unemployment. The high unemployment is mainly due to covid and loss of tourism, on which the island is highly dependent. A lot of European tourists are also choosing not to travel at this time due to concerns about the war in Ukraine. Also, Mallorca is quite expensive and very difficult to find somewhere that is affordable and decent to stay. Customer service is often non-existent and there is a huge amount of disrespect. As a result, those who are planning holidays in Europe are favouring places like Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Croatia which are also beautiful, but where they are treated well and appreciated and get a lot more value for money.
