On this episode of How to Drink, I’m partnering up with Luxardo to make a Christmas favorite, Eggnog. This isn’t your regular Eggnog though, I tested out some variations on the classic Eggnog and tweaking proportions to come up with this recipe and this was the way I will always make my Eggnog this way. So whether you’re caroling, or sitting by an open fire, make yourself an Eggnog and enjoy the Holiday season. Merry Christmas!

Maraschino Eggnog Ingredients:
- 2 oz or 60 ml of Bourbon
- .5 oz or 15 ml of Cognac
- .5 oz or 15 ml of Luxardo Maraschino
- .5 oz or 15 ml of Simple Syrup
- 1 Whole Egg
- Dry Shake & Ice Shake
- Top with Milk
- Nutmeg, Orange Zest, and Luxardo Maraschino
- Garnish with Cherries

Maraschino Egg Nog Expanded (Drink with Friends):
- 24 oz or or 710 ml of Bourbon
- 6 oz or 177 ml of Cognac
- 6 oz or 177 ml of Luxardo Maraschino
- 6 oz or 177 ml of Simple Syrup
- 12 Whole Eggs
- 24 oz or 710 ml of Milk
- Froth with Mixer
- Garnish with Nutmeg, Orange Zest, and Luxardo Cherries when Ladled.

I finally made this tonight because I have given up pretending to adhere to seasonal drinking conventions and I can say with confidence that this is a masterpiece. The maraschino is sublime with a woody 100 proof bourbon. Cheers.

Some nice additions or alternatives to this drink I have discovered: 1) adding 1/4 oz. of allspice dram, and / or 2) chocolate milk substituted for regular milk. This is now my go-to cocktail during winter. Thanks, Greg!

Oh man, this is one of my favs.

By the way, when i went to bartending school I crafted a cocktail with the following ingredients:

Dark Rum
Triple sec / Cointreau / Grand marnier
Vanilla Ice cream
Ground Cinnamon
Orange juice

All blended in a cocktail shaker.
I'm not putting any quantities so anyone who´d like to try this can do it their own way and enjoy it.
Greg, if you want to do this one in the channel I´d be honored.

I'm so surprised how simple this recipe is. I always imagined eggnog would be a complicated recipe involving rare ingredients, heat, food processors and Alton Brown-level cooking chemistry. Turns out it's so simple.

Started to make one of these for a friend and halfway through they said "no egg or dairy please." So I made it without, and it was still good! (but very sweet). I remade it with just bourbon, Maraschino, cognac, and a squeeze of lemon peel. It's nothing like egg nog, but it's a great combination I never would've thought of.

When I first discovered eggnog a few years back, (I'm British, yeah I've heard about it, but never knew what it was, the name sounded disgusting to me, never interested me, then) one Christmas I just decided to look up a recipe that included eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar and optional bourbon, I fell in love with it and drank it a few times a month for the whole of the next year, though I opted for no alcohol as I felt it tasted better without. I'm really looking forward to trying this recipe those year though!

I always put Amaretto in my eggnog...nice smooth flavor....with just a little kicker

It’s good to age this too, especially if you’re making a big batch. You’ll be amazed at how the flavor transforms!

Made this last night, quite good. Even my wife who is not a bourbon fan enjoyed it. I know you say you tried doing this with rum, and it was not as good, but I could see this working with a dark, or maybe a spiced rum such as Kraken, might give that a try tonight.
