Why is my filter floating?

Gas in the water from high pressure in your pipes is releasing in the lower pressure of your house and settling on your filters, causing them to float.

Because the sponge has air in it, so that’s why it’s floating. You have to squeeze the sponge couple of times.

I bought a sponge filter for my 4 fancies after watching your videos for so long, and I couldn't figure out why it didn't sink. I squished it like you said and it sunk! 😂

Due to density, the old water in the tank was a different density after you did a water change but really i dont know

Damn that's unfortunate I thought it was oxygen bubbles that when you put the new water in the oxygen bubbles were just getting attached to the filter

all of the ph in the new water gets in to the filter and it rises up to the top of the tank and you have to squeeze the sponge to let all the ph out of it

My guess: It's like putting water on a screen door, but it's air in the little pockets of the sponge filter. This air increases the sponge filters buoyancy and makes it float.

And here I was, thinking it's because of the cheap quality, cause, the only cheap one i bought out of 10+ filters that I've, only that one floated!

Because the density of the filter is lower than the density of the water because the sponge filter is clean and hasn't suck any debris
