I worked at black fries. Years ago the lady that worked in the kitchen made bread fresh every morning and her hot pot was out of this world. 🙌 all from scratch proper home cooked food

So my list is probably a bit bias as I worked in a number of these:
The coal Hole on the Strand famous for the Wolf club, was the drinking haunt of the wonderful late actor Richard Harris and its proximity to the savoy and theatres means you never know who you will run across.
The Red Lion on Duke of York Street, it contains its original layout and stained glass, it is a beautiful little pub.
The Trafalgar Tavern in Greenwich has a lot of history connected to it and you can spend hours looking at the memorabilia lining its walls and shelves as well as look out over the majestic Thames
The Viaduct, Holborn, I am always surprised this pub is missed of historical pubs in London lists as below the bar you will find original Gaol cells which held prisoners destined to go for a swing at Tyburn! It is also allegedly haunted.
The Nell Gwynne Tavern just of the strand, which was built where the Bulls in originally stood, named after Charles I mistress and a hop skip and a jump away from where the actor William Terris was murdered.
The Queens larder, queen Square (down a narrow alleyway opposite Russell Square. Was where Queen Charlotte stored food for her husband, George iii’s special diet whilst he was being treated for his mental health problems by his doctor on queen square.
The Wheatsheef, rathbone place, fizrovia, was the drinking place of many a great mind such as Dylan Thomas, George Orwell and Anthony burgess and has been frequented by many famous brits over the years.

This last one no longer exists sadly in London and is now in Cumbria being returned to its former glory. The Queen Mary steam boat used to be moored off embankment on the Thames and its life as a ship is truly interesting, it later became Bass’s flag ship, in fact and pun and hosted events like the end of filming wrap for James Bond 007. It was also one of the best places to be to see in the millennium as it was basically in the middle of everything.
A group of people including the late Robbie Coltrain saved her from a watery grave and are restoring her to be a museum now, I recommend checking out their Facebook page and reading more on this ship, especially why her name had to be changed.
There are so many more I could list, as for a long time the pubs and taverns were the backbone of life, wether as a place to socialise, a pit stop between a visit to the theatre or one of the other less family friendly entertainments often nearby, to the place where the lower classes could ease tired bones, fill a pint with gin or the poorest just grasp a moment of warmth and a drink to block the thought of the poverty they found themselves in.
Epic short thank you for sharing

Excellent list, I’ve been to a few.
I would add Trafalgar Tavern by the river in Greenwich next to the Royal Naval Hospital and if we’re on the subject of historic watering holes then, while not a pub, it would be amiss not to mention the oldest place to enjoy a tipple in London and that would be Gordon’s Winebar, my favourite haunt of all.

1.The Lamb and Flag off Garrick Street, my local years ago (there's still a plaque under the bar for my dog, Welly).
2. The Black Lion on Black Lion Lane (old, old, old) my local when I lived on Black Lion Lane.
3. The White Swan, Twickenham, when the Thames flows across the road.

The Grapes, as my father used to take me there to get lunch when we would sit outside as it was so small you had to shuffle in and out. I was barely a teen so 50 years ago when we worked on the The Limehouse boardmills steam engine that made cardboard for bus tickets etc. Glad its still there as whole area has completely changed. Thank you for this trip down memory lane.

Jamaica Inn on St Michael's Alley off Cornhill. Used to be a coffee house dating back to 1600's. Now a pub.

I like the Mayflower, Rotherhithe. Formerly the Spread Eagle from the late 18th century, though I think its history goes back further.

Was quite a notorious pub amongst dockers and constables during the 19th century. It was right at the edge of the Surrey Commercial Docks and so full of seamen from all over Europe, and naturally the site of many brawls and other criminal activities.

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!🎉
I am not a drinker of alcohol
But I Do love quaint battered Inns of yore! They feel magical. I adore those tight little alleyways! It’s like playing hide n seek!😂😂

Cheshire Cheese is one of my faves. I used to go there when I was a 6th year at school. They sell the best suet pie in London. Proper sawdust floor pub. And the Blackfriars was another pub we would go to after school. Captain Kidd is decent as well. I used to work in Wapping and go there after work. Got a lovely view of the Thames from the garden.
