Over absorbing can make a room sound dull and lifeless, but it could very well be that you're absorbing at the wrong frequencies with too much thin absorption. This video will explore what makes a room sound dead and how to avoid it.

I just installed my first panels from GIK. The sound is astonishing.

This is good advice. I've recorded drums in my home studio for ~ 15 years. I went down the path of blankets and carpet at one time and found that I had a harder time mixing the drum tracks. Then, after Hurricane Harvey in 2017, my studio was damaged and all the fabric-based treatments came out for a rebuild. I had the opportunity to hear overdampened, untreated and then balanced treatments "side by side." Overdampened was by far the worst, with bass out of control and an unnatural timbre hampering the drum sound. Untreated was kinda' cool, because it was huge, but then I had way too much cymbal/hi-hat bleed into close mics. The final setup used a bit less treatment than I expected, but most important, there is now a balance of bass absorption, mid absorption and some reflection. I can now make the drums sound huge and boomy or tight, crisp and present, depending upon how I compress, or with a few room mics. Just a moderate amount of treatment with the right balance makes a big difference in the sound.

Hey I recently bought a lot of stuff from your website I think you guys have high quality stuff. Quick question, for a professional vocal booth or small room for recording, shouldn’t we opt for a more deadening sound in those situations so the vocals are easier to mix? Almost every recording studio I’ve been to has the whole vocal booth covered in acoustic foam for example

I had GK design my room about 9 years ago.. It's room is great for mixing and mastering. It's nearly dead. I've tried everything but can't get a decent recording of my acoustic. Also, I've used large and small diaphragm mics, different locations. Any ideas? I've thought about buying one of those Zoom recorders and just record my guitar in my garage and fly that back into my project.

I got slap echo; I dream of a dead room! Mind you, it's bereft of furniture at this point...
