You are right! Older vehicles are built way better, my 03 GMC Yukon 5.3 still taking me everywhere with basic maintenance!

I work at O’Reilly’s. He’s right about the battery prices. We will price match, though.

The best car to run forever, needs to have a manual transmission. Bravo Scotty for telling us about the longevity of manual transmissions.

Definitely some truth about older cars! I recently bought a 21 year old V8 4Runner and it runs as smooth as a new vehicle. Only 130k miles, many more left to go!

Get your batteries at Costco. Or do what I do. Call up advanced auto parts and ask them to price match Costco. Done it twice already.

As an autozone employee we will price match if you find something at say walmart or another store

Regarding how they used to build the early 80s, a coworker of mine had a little Toyota pickup truck. Most of us there were motorheads. He wasn't. One day he was asking what to do, because his oil light came on. He bought the truck new.
"Check it".
He looked a little confused.
"When was the last time you checked it?"
Well, he had never checked it.
"When was the last time you changed your oil?"
Changed it??? Never.
We were getting kinda stunned. "How many miles does it have on it?"
About 70, 000
WTF!?!?!?!
Damn good engine. Never had an oil change or even been topped off. 70, 000 miles to get the oil light to come on.

I work for AutoZone, and tell my customers the same thing....I tell them to go to Walmart if they can't really afford it .
O'Reilly's and Advanced Auto are the same way.. expensive

I finally found a non auto subject that I agree with you on. Natural beauty, no theme parks or plastic stuff. I used to ask my kids for vacation, would you like to go to Disney world, or Greece. They chose Greece. Beautiful water, cliffs of Santorini, snow capped mountains on Crete.

I had a ‘92 Jetta w a tdi. Thing was a hoot to drive. 5 speed, and fuel mileage was insane.

Watching your vids for a while, respect most of your opinions/tech advice, just to say, I'm one of the folks you mentioned, bought a 2016 chevy colorado for 25K$ around 2020, only 51k miles on it compared to the nearly 40k+$ they wanted for new and after seeing all the recalls on the ones made after 2016, glad I made a good choice, only problem I had, a year ago, had O2 sensor go bad, the one right under the engine cover, paid less than 100.00 for repair and I brought the part to be installed, the mechanic does have his own shop, pro, but, I used to help him when I worked at a parts shop, (starts with an O) and I also helped him in the shop working on the/my vehicle repair he is one of the old school techs, he charges the rates like other repair shops, he and I just get along well, it helps to know your mechanic. retired military, parts tech/runner.

I love my '93, with the manual windows and the wing windows. I love that it doesn't have a remote kill switch or send any telemetry to some 3rd party. I love the 5-speed manual transmission. The only thing I don't like about it is it has the automatic hubs. I like the old, get out and turn the hubs method. Less wear and tear on the front end in 2wd.

At Costco I paid $109 for a battery. The equivalent specs were $229 plus at other places. Interstate is the brand

My grandpa had a Willys with running boards. In the seventies he said the new cars were too hard to figure out how to fix. Computers.

After 8 years the 12 volt battery went out in our Prius V. I checked the 3 main parts stores in my area. All wanted around $250 for aftermarket replacements. I guess I had assumed they would be less than the Toyota dealer. Wrong. The local dealer had it for around $190. The original went 8 years so there wasn't anything else to think about. It is an easy change out with the help of a You Tube video.

I work at Autozone, I would suggest to price match, yes! They price match and its a policy, as long as it is from a brick and mortar store, I always price match walmart

I have a set of Duralast sockets and ratchets that was given to me as a gift in the early 90s.
I have used the h=ll out of those things, especially the ratchet. I may or may not have used various things to extend the handle for some impressive leverage, and that set is still going strong.
