could you do a video on charging a dead 12 volt battery for an ev9?

From your demonstration, I think it would be easier to just sell the car locked. 🙂

The retractable door handles are cool, but that’s an awful design should the fob battery die. Granted that’s rare, but I have had it happen. Far easier to find a battery to open the car than go through this. Plus, not having the mechanical key inside the fob is a mistake. Now you have to carry a second item on your key ring and I like to keep what is on my ring to a minimum. And that second item will rarely be used so it’s taking up ring space for mostly nothing. Better to embed it inside the fob like so many tried and true designs.

I will keep my 2017 Tucson where I could simply remove the key from the Fob and insert into the visible door lock, pull the normal handle, open the door, and then jumpstart my car.. This new system is just plain stupid. Most people will lose the spare keys and have no idea where they are. I periodically lubricate the keyhole and test its operation as regular maintenance to insure that it will work.

It ll be perfect if you show how to boost the 12v battery too. Thanks for the info though I one day might be able to benefit from this.

I have an EV9 and didn't think to look into this before leasing it. As much as my 12V died on my EV6, I'm sure hoping it doesn't happen on the EV9. Even if I used my fob instead of my smartphone, if my battery died while I was out and about, I wouldn't want to drag my spare key around all the time just in case this was necessary. It would be fine if they could keep the 12V from dying when you have sufficient charge state on the main pack, cause then this would be a very unlikely issue. But, given my past experience, I'm a little worried about being locked out. The inconvenience having to get a ride home to get the key and go back to unlock the car is significant, and hard to weigh against carrying around and worrying about losing that little key that you almost never use. As big as the fob is in this generation, I wouldn't have complained about making it bigger to include this key, since it is the only way to get in a dead car.

when the EV9 is locking and the handles retract, will it crush your fingers?

How does this work on a 2024 Kia Seltos?

Is there ever a situation where the door can not open and the engine is ok to start? Or vice-versa? If the battery is dead, then both the door and the engine will be dead, right?

Was considering ev9, but stayed away and bought another brand hybrid. Will wait till EVs evolve a bit.
Retractable handles are terrible. Don't know why they abandoned the classic handle design.

Does this even work if the key battery is totally flat ? Appreciate if you can test it by taking out the battery from the key and see if the case start by placing it at the position near the wireless charging pad. Thanks.

If the remote is dead, can you start up the car after opening the door with the key?

What if the mechanical key doesnt come with ev9. Is there an emergency realese somewhere to get into the vehicke to access the 12v battery?

C'mon Kia give us real door handles ... I blame Tesla for starting this trend on EVs. Handles will return just like buttons for climate and infotainment are being brought back on new cars now. The designers go crazy re-inventing the wheel then realize their customers have hands and like simple knobs, handles and ease of use. Having to yank the handle out on a cold dead EV9 is just bad. "oh but they're more efficient"....really on a 5000 lbs. car? Thanks Hyundai for giving us real handles on the Kona electric 💙
