You honestly talked me off the ledge of buying a new iPhone. I don't need a new one. That was the problem. Thanks man!

My 2011 17” MacBook Po is now 10 years old and is still going strong.

Great advice! Big tech purchases are investments. You should set a target an amount of time you want it to last, and then always buy the most premium option that fits your use case. In the long run it will save you money if you don't swap it out or upgrade. As an example, I am still using my same custom desktop PC with like 1 or 2 upgraded parts nearly 10 years later. I spent about $1, 000 on it when I had just graduated from university and it's been one of the best investments I have ever made. I just upgraded my phone, the phone I had before I had been using for 5 years. I just upgraded my mouse and keyboard, both of which I had been using for 6 years. It was fun to upgrade because 1. I knew exactly what I wanted out of the new tech 2. I had gotten a lot of great use out of the tech I had before and 3. I had a target of specifications for what I wanted out of these products.

Hey uh, T- Mobile got me too! I resonate with this video so much but I have a long way to go because I buy stuff to feel good. Thank you for making this video. I hope I can come back and update you on my progress.

you could use zip ties for rgb lights instead of their tape or buy a double sided tape so you can put a new tape if you're going to transfer them from one table to another

I'm an amateur photographer struggling with Gear Acquisition Syndrome! Any advice? I don't know if you've ever considered a video just about cameras because I feel like they're a different category than just consumer tech. Great content!

Your last thing is like my achilles heel. Buying cheap till I get it right. Thankfully I got over that recently. Reminds me of the Churchill quote about the US : “Americans can always be trusted to do the right thing, once all other possibilities have been exhausted.” Glad it didn't take you an additional 35 years like it took me.

Thanks for your video, you are a realistic person and respectful the way you analyzed people’s mindsets

I think it is important to be realistic but it is very difficult in today's world, isn't it? We are surrounded by the latest technology and it is hard not to fall into temptation and like you said, we might make a silly excuse to ourselves in order to believe that we reallly need it.
I recently bought an iPad first generation and people said to me I was very cheap. But, if I only need it as a second screen and for checking emails, why would I spend more money? This does the work! Besides, I had never owned one before and I wasnt sure I would enjoy the experience, why would I buy a more expensive one and then not use it? Don't get me wrong, I would love to buy a more modern one!
We need to be realistic and honest with ourselves and stop looking at what the other person owns.

It's hard to control yourself from buying technology when you love technology. Now I'm controlling myself from buying an HP elitedesk g2 mini, i don't need it but it's tempting me

The smart phone is such a cool gadget I think people are looking for apps just so they can use their new gadget. That means people waste their time on apps they would not use if it were on a larger less cool looking device. The convenience of always having it with you is a related but separate issue. There is a PhD thesis in there somewhere. The gadget factor.

I am a goldsmith and silversmith and buying cheap tools is a false economy. The cheap tool always breaks or wears out quickly. Good tools will last you a lifetime.
