Where does the energy go that originally formed the storm clouds?

It's stored in the moisture in the air, and is released only when h2o is produced. With an abundance of rain being produced, and energy being released, BOOM. Lightening, pure energy.

The original heat needed for producing storm clouds is stored in moisture by the cooling of the rising hot air. Change in dew point changes the moisture content, therfore storing said energy even more. Once h2o is actually formed, which requires energy, energy is released. We call it Lightening. Pure energy!
