Trent Reznor's Nine Inch Nails version contained the line, "I wear this crown of shit." Johnny Cash wisely wouldn't sing that, so he used a modified version of the song Reznor had prepared for radio play which changed the line to, "I wear this crown of thorns" – a much more poetic line, especially for someone like Cash who strongly admired Jesus Christ.
