When events around the world take a turn for the worse it is endeavors like this that give hope for a better tomorrow. Anybody who knew the tumultuous times in 1968 will also remember how the following Apollo mission lifted the spirits of many and gave hope.

I saw the thumbnail and thought "wow this rocket really looks like a Saturn V, they even have the tower painted red and everything" then I click into the video and it turns out the thumbnail was taken from part of the video showing the Apollo missions launching - it looked like a Saturn V because it _was_ a Saturn V. I then felt stupid.

Most powerful rocket? Pathetic, increase their budget if they would’ve had the same budget as the DoD we would’ve been on Mars by now. smh

Diana.

Anyone else picking up what I'm putting down?

SLS needs a cool name, in the Apollo Program it was the Saturn V, Space Launch System just sounds like a placeholder name

Nice to see something positive in the news! We seem a little less divided, a little less isolated from each other and different from each other, when you see that pale blue dot that is Earth surrounding by an almost unfathomable amount of limitless darkness.

fun fact: there is a greek god named apollo and artemis. the artemis god means the god of moon and apollo is god of sun.

Why don't they do a automated moon landing while they're there?

I hope this succeeds. Humanity needs to something to pin our hopes & dreams to again. Imagine how amazing it was to see Armstrong take those first steps. It will be amazing to see us return once more to the moon

We need this. Somehow, though, I sense it won't have the same wonder behind it as Apollo. For one thing, there's no Walter Cronkite, the greatest of the moon mission anchormen in that era. Waste of money or not, which was the same criticism of the space program back in the 60's, we needed it then & we need it now---more than ever.

I really love that Geo did his coverage at the Museum Of Natural History’s Planetarium. That was a clever choice. 👍I love that place.

So just for reference, putting a station on the moon as a pit stop to mars is basically the equivalent to making a pit stop on lap one of the Dayton 500 and saying "that'll do."

I hope the aliens on the dark side of the moon are wearing masks
