Deep-brain stimulation (DBS) can be effective for the motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease, but it does not reliably improve cognitive symptoms. Kelley and Flouty et al. map connections between the subthalamic nucleus and the prefrontal cortex, and then use low-frequency DBS to improve performance on an elementary cognitive task.
