Button batteries are about the size of a nickel and are used in TV remotes, singing cards, and toys. They are small, round and flat and look harmless – but they aren’t. This type of battery, if swallowed by a child can be very dangerous. Dr. Gresham Richter is the chief of pediatric otolaryngology (ENT) at Arkansas Children’s. He has a simple message for parents and guardians when it comes to keeping kids safe around button batteries.
