I love “worst books” lists! Sometimes a reason why someone didn’t like a book is a reason why I’m interested in it!

I love negative reviews, they're so much more helpful to figure out whether I'm going to like a book or not than positive ones! The Bear and the Nightingale was so boring with the religious conflict, I finished it but I expected so much more with all the hype around it...

Don't apologize. Everyone has their likes. I struggle so much at times when reading, and end up being in a slump. I have finally realized it's okay to DNF books.

I wish someone would’ve told the author of the lost apothecary to ditch the entire present storyline and just dive into that past plot, it was so much more interesting and could’ve been a whole novel itself

The video hasn't even started and I can already see the gap in the bookcase where Golden Son is supposed to be 😆

I’m right there with you- I think this type of video is great! I like to know what books I maybe shouldn’t bother with, but also sometimes the reason one person hates a book could be the same reason someone else loves that book! I think you can get so much out of this type of video… My most disappointing read last year was the first Witcher novel, Blood of Elves. It was a very similar reason to your explanation about Golden Son- I really loved the Witcher short story collections and then Blood of Elves was just ok. It was disappointing because I was expecting to absolutely love it, but I ended up giving it 3 stars. I’m still continuing the series, currently reading book 2, but my expectations are a little lower now.

Ahhh we can't all like the same things, that would be boring. You broke my heart with Nevermoor, but you win some, you lose some. Will you continue, do you think? Funny how you mentioned The Lost Apothecary, I DNFed it. And it was the historical section that did it for me, the lack of communication with the kid. And I also DNFed The Kiss Thief years ago.

As someone who kept going with Rat Queens and is currently up to Vol 8, the weird turn it takes at 5 does make sense later on and there is a good explanation about what happened. It's still not felt the same as those first 4 that I fell in love with though and it took me longer to read them because I wasn't as excited for the new volumes. I would say keep going but definitely lower your expectations.

What I love the most about your reviews is that they are honest without being obnoxious. You don't dislike a book because character A didn't kiss with character B, or because you had unrealistic expectations of characters and/or the plot. Your reviews are objective, to the point, and really informative. Thank you for being authentic!

My worst book of 2021 was "The Hand of God" by Philip Kerr. The premise was interesting as hell. The content? Christ, I still can't believe I finished it.

Shout out to the chaotic evil that is Anissa for making you read a book she knew you'd really hate. Top tier content 😂

Random question - can you, please, share where your sweater is from? It's literally perfect and what I've been looking for! Those puffy arms omg!! 😻
And just an idea - what if you make like a clothing haul for book readers video? 😁😁 I love your fashion and what you wear! 🤍

I am pro worst book videos. I love looking at both sides for a book. Seeing all positive videos for books doesn't help me.

Omg finally someone who feels the same as I do about the Bear and the Nightingale. I was so First book I DNF’d in 2021.

Great video! Don't worry about Nevermoor for you are not alone on the disappointment. I also thought it was a OK book, although I love both Percy Jackson and the Magisterium. In my experience, middle grades with portal fantasy do not work for me, so maybe you can still find something that works for you.

I have to agree with Nevermoor. I finished it not that long ago and it was just okay. Like there were cute things and I like middle grade but I felt like it was very basic. Maybe I’ll read more of the series.

Also I had so many books that disappointed me in 2021. It was not my year. Books included Spin the Dawn, Children of Blood and Bone, The Year of the Witching, I’ll Give You the Sun, and Summer Days and Summer Nights.

Hype makes me suspicious of books so I go in to most hyped books with flat expectations. It's the books I self-hype myself up for that let me down big time because I love the premise (and/or cover) and ingredients so much my brain sets me up to think it will be a win. Sometimes I get lucky and sometimes very very much not.

Negative reviews are important and help remind us that books are not always going to be interpreted/experienced in the same way by everyone who reads them. And that is okay 😸😸 Thank you for your explanations of the factors or elements of these books that didn’t work for you - that is always helpful when deciding whether to read a book or not. I have learned to take the marketing of books with a pinch of salt, and basically pick up a book (or not) on the basis of whether the premise triggers my curiosity or not.

Lol, I discovered your channel not long ago, this was a hilarious video given so many popular books are here. (For the record, I loved Bear, slow start but the payoff was great, I bought Kaigen, I was disappointed with The silent patient so was never picking Maidens anyways). My worst of 2021 was Survive the night by Sager, there are no words...
