If there is a good argument for his side, that wasn't it.

I wonder how the 800 million malnourished people feel about about the 'happiness' and 'joy' over sustenance philosophy

So basically he had nothing to say but wanted to make a video anyways

Lab grown meat is great because it uses way less green house gasses. I don't find your reasoning compelling at all.

I'm not even vegan or vegetarian but man this guy makes the argument a 12 year old would make. Disregarding any ethical or environmental concerns for personal joy truly demonstrates a lack of nuance.

His opinion doesn't seem very well thought out. It seems like he thought about the topic for all of 2 minutes then just went, "Well it is different so I don't like it."

Why is this tech show obsessed over Anthony Bourdian's meat?

This is the shittiest argument I've seen against artificial meat. From calling soy products artificial meat when they are meat substitutes, to outright dissing a product that is not even in its infancy of development.
Well I may not be a fancy celebrity chef like Bourdain but I am a chef and I for one cannot wait for artificial meat to become relevant and affordable. I think it will revolutionize our entire agricultural system.

Coincidentally Mr Bordain is also made of meat.

The problem Anthony old chum is consumption and cost. Live animals can cost a lot of money to raise and take up a lot of space; moreover, meat production costs a fortune in all manner of maintenance. Synthetic, cell grown meat, is only in its infancy at the moment and the technology will improve. I see a big future for synthetic meat simply; because,  of the massive savings and huge profits the big wigs in charge of food production could potentially make. Mark my words, synthetic, cell grown meat is going to be huge.

The main issue with synthetic meat is going to come down to price. You might get a few ethics-conscious homes with some money buying the stuff, but most everyone is going to choose cheap over humane. And of course, I have serious doubt they can create stuff that tastes as good as high grade meat; if I'm paying extra, it's for something tasty.

>Happiness and joy are important
>Therefore we *shouldn't* reduce the killing of animals that don't want to die

because the dying screams of agony are what gives it the best flavor

Anthony Bourdain is way too old school and not really considering where we get meat from anyhow. We factory farm to produce virtually all meat, which is pretty synthetic in itself and way less sanitary than growing it in a bio-reactor. Why does it matter how we produce the meat; it literally is meat, exact same composition we're getting now, just way better because we can control all the variables like fat marbling, muscle, bone, ect. I don't think Anthony has tried or even better cooked with lab grown meat that will become the norm in a few years, and is just working off his preconceived notions that don't hold any water. If we gave him a piece of the lab grown meat and asked him to cook him to cook us something yummy, and he wasn't told where that meat comes from, I am about 98% sure he would love that dish and wouldn't even suspect the difference.

This guy made no point whatsoever. My question for him is if he is ok with real meat and not fake meat then why does he spray tan over real tan?

We should put joy for ourselves above anything else. I assume this holds true for everyone then? Like pedophiles, rapists, dog fighters, people who set puppies on fire because it makes them feel good? So let's all listen to this selfish, egocentric philosophy and forget about any other person or animal. We should all do what we want regardless of who gets hurt. Priceless.

I am 100% carnivore. If I don't have meat for every meal of the day something is wrong. but you can't deny that beef uses significantly more water and land to produce than plants. I totally agree we can't ignore flavor and I have no interest in eating fake meat but you can't deny the benefits of how much less resources it costs

The aggregate happiness, joy, and magic of the world is arguably far, far lower when animals are being killed in excess, despite our identical cruelty-free alternatives.

All the suffering and lives of countless animals lost so we can enjoy a little taste difference in meats?? As soon as lab meat becomes mainstream and price bearable I will consume only it without ever having again to look at my plate with guilt.

Ok, I grant you that food is not to be merely thought of as sustenance but how about drawing pleasure and "magic" from knowing that you, in some small way, are helping save the environment and are contributing to an effort to preserve our planet? And also, that's just like, your opinion, man.
