Don’t forget to surround your dark oak with gold blocks!
How to get gold blocks:
Either mine for gold ores until you get enough for gold blocks,
9 gold ores equals a gold block
Or raid a bastion until they’re so poor they can’t afford pop eyes

I was exploring away from spawn and found a dark oak biome 2500 blocks away (other side is pure spruce and snow) took one sappling because i was impatient, had been wasting my bone meal on that tree, ig i have to wait for a wandering trader or find anothe dark oak biome, if unlucky, will have to travel 2500 blocks again

The dimmadang return on investment is pretty low. I sometimes yield 3 saplings for every proper tree I plant.
