GPD Win 2 m3-8100Y COOLING MOD / DISASSEMBLY / REPLACE THERMAL PASTE TUTORIAL

Instructions / Tutorial to significantly improve the cooling capacity of the GPD Win 2 Handheld Gaming Console.

You will see how to disassemble the unit, do some mods, reapply thermal paste, and the low temps that are reached after that!

I will open the console to show you the internals.

1. Better cooling by using thicker feet
You can increase the airflow beneath the unit with a little bigger rubber pads.
To make the rubber pads, buy some at a hardware store or hobby store. On every pad cut out a hole to make them hollow, so you can put them over the existing pads. Use glue to fix them.

2. Thermal paste
The better quality thermal paste the better cooling. Use a very thin layer of paste, because it's only ment to fill in the micro holes. GPD has put a huge layer of cheap paste on it which barely conducts the heat.

3. Cooling the SSD
The SSD can get very hot too. You can conduct the heat of the SSD with a thermal pad. It must touch the heat sink of the CPU and the aluminum foil beneath the SSD.

Hi Gersonnl, after changing the thermal paste how does the m3-8100y run with AAA games or heavy usage in comparison to the m3-7y30 version with the copper heatsink mod installed?

I was thinking of using liquid metal to mod mine. It worked on my laptop and stopped the throttling.
