An Atheist's Perspective on Death and the Afterlife
My views on death have changed alot from being a Christian to an Atheist. I think one of my greatest fears humans encounter in life is the thought of dying and not know what happens after. One thing that religion offers people is the false hope that when you die there is something that is going to be there that is better then the life you have now. My Christian up bringing was filled with teaching of being fearful and having blind faith was good while questioning what was told is seen as bad.

Good video about having been a believer, becoming a non-believer, and living his life without facing huge distress because of it. Rational post without feeling the necessity to use as many quotes or strange terms as possible. He had good reasons to follow the religion and to leave it.

just want to say thank you for this video. what you have to say makes so much sense and I appreciate you explaining your views in a rational way. the great Neil deGrasse Tyson is another person who has rational views about atheism. i used to be a Christian, too...at church sunday morning, sunday night, wed night and fri night Bible study group. it's incredible to finally be free of religion. all the very best wishes to you from a 60 year old xo

You're right... no one knows what happens after you die truly... Energy doesn't truly die just transforms I've heard. If your consciousness is a form of energy maybe it will never die, just change into some other form of energy. I think most spiritual beliefs feel as though your conscious decisions in this life or conscious decisions in this life will effect how your conscious energy will form in the after life. No one knows that nothing will happen after you die and no one knows that something will happen for a fact. The overall approach is faith in a belief stemmed from hope, and dare I say a sense. I have to say from a practical stand point that for years across multi-cultural lines human beings have sensed that something occurs after death, but we just don't know. Just because we don't know what happens for a certainty doesn't prove nothing does happen, but I can't logically shake the idea that the overwhelming sense that people feel for years and years, and centuries upon millenia aren't on to something that we can't quite put our finger on. We are ignorant, we have to admit that first. No one truly knows anything. I've met people that swear that they've seen ghosts. I've tried asking them to look at it logically but they are convinced that they've seen ghosts of loved ones past even though they have no evidential basis other than what they're eyes, ears, and other senses feel. The same is for the after life, There are those that claim to have had near death experiences and have seen an afterlife. Do we believe them, do we say they're quacks? Does the entire world need to see an after life on video tape in order to believe it? No one has seen the earths core, but we believe what someone says exists there. We have a faith in what we don't know, we simply believe it or not.

2. I admire your courage in leaving Christianity.
3. It sounds like you need to move to a better neighborhood!

most atheists I hear speaking reject faith because of the actions and behaviours of other humans...now that's crazy.

Whatever happens to you, just remember that God is always on your side always. And I assure that all of us will be in heaven, as long ad we obey his commandments.

What if when you die you just go brain dead and won’t have a functioning brain so you won’t have emotions and when you have no precession of time eternity will feel as if it was a second long and you just go into your next life or if not you can’t have a emotion on it?

bro. i am grateful i finded out this whole christianity thing was all a joke. im literally going to live my only life more productivily and take on these petty risks that i always just put to the side and never did because i thought id live forever. because at the end of the day what we worry about doing(risks) today that will make our life funner and better wont matter in maybe less then a hundred years

If Christianity or wvery religion didn’t exist, allof these would not exist:

-Christmas
-Saints/Prophets
-churches/place of worship
-understanding of morality

greetings .the individual conscious experience explains itself . religion and atheism relate the state of mind . . we can`t exploit nature and those who get the memory bach just blend into society with an impersonal awareness . with regards

Good video personally I don’t mind the idea of God or gods and or afterlife despite I don’t believe in any of that due to lack of evidence and I would say about the same thing to you live life to the best of your abilities and try your best to be a good person because as far as we know this is our only life and if I’m wrong then I do meet a God or any of the gods and what not then they should know why I didn’t believe and judge me accordingly but I digress from that and say good luck to you and best of wishes in the future and hope you’re doing well.

You were not a Christian. You were someone who believed in something out of fear. You did not know or experience God’s true love. You never met the Creator. One more thing, are you really enjoying this life? Are you truly happy? You don’t seem very happy.

Let me preface this by saying I am a Christian. You have every right to stand up for your beliefs and offer them to us. I do admire your courage. However, I can still get out of bed in the morning. Happy to emulate my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. That is what brings me joy! He showed love and kindness to everyone he met. Especially the outcast and downtrodden. Let's get one thing straight, though. God loves the sinner but hates the sin. Plus, he gave us free will, and we live in a messed up world that messes up our lives. God just helps his believers through their problems and bad circumstances. As for life after death. I am in a win-win situation. If there is no life after death. I can go to my grave knowing I have left a good legacy behind. Now if I am correct and there is a heaven. I win also by getting to go to a place of complete perfection, which my simple mind can't comprehend and I am glad I can't. Now, humor me and let's look at your situation. If you're right and you die nothing happens right. But what if I am right and there is a heaven. That means there is definitely hell. If I can't fathom what heaven is going to be like. I dare not fathom as to what hell would be like. And yes, I am definitely afraid of that. I choose Jesus because he is my friend and loves me but also because I don't want to experience hell for eternity. In conclusion I would treat you with love and kindness like any other human being. I pray though that you find your way back to Jesus. He is always there waiting with open arms for you.
