This movie is stupid. A lot of things don't make any sense.
(1) So you're going into space, and you don't bring along extra oxygen? So when you realize you could have used a little more, the best solution is to have someone die? That's a movie plot?
(2) Oh wait, they did have extra oxygen! But having someone die seemed like an easier solution than getting the extra oxygen? Really?
(3) I guess #2 is because they keep the extra oxygen in a place that seems extremely inconvenient to get to. They have to go out into space and risk their lives to get the things that they need to save their lives. Newsflash - keep the things you really need close at hand! For example when you are in space that would be oxygen! I guess only non-astronauts know that you want easy access to the things you need to survive.
