Most people aren't aware of this but spacecraft are weighed to the gram before launch. The transporters measure weight to the kilo. The guidance system can measure the mass of the craft to the gram during thrust. There's no way you'd end up on an escape trajectory without noticing you're 80kg over mass.

Can we just have a movie about space where the ship doesn’t randomly start breaking and tragedy strikes every 10 minutes. Why couldn’t this have been about the stowaway coming to terms with being a part of the crew and be more of a drama than a generic space plot.

My dad had a similar situation at the airport. He works as a catering driver and when he was done the crew called and said they needed help in the aft galley. So he walked back there and helped them find everything but it took a while and he looked out the window and saw that the plane was starting to push back and start the engines. They had to send out a truck that picked him up on the taxiway :P

All these space shuttle syfy movies, feel like they are all the same. Going on a mission, something bad happens, they have to fix it, ppl start dying etc.

It reminds me of "the cold equations", though in the story, they have to space the stowaway because the message is that you have to accept reality over wishful thinking. I expect that will be too grim for Hollywood.
