I’ve talked a lot about quantum hype, but I only recently saw that some news outlets are now giving investment advice for what quantum tech to buy stocks of. I want to talk about this a bit because I don’t want you to lose your money...

During a previous bubble, I heard a presentation from Bloomberg. When asked if investing in that "bubble" was reasonable, his answer was (from the top of my head): "You invest in thoses stocks like you invest in art. It is not because you think that a painting has any value in itself that you invest in it, but because you thing that somebofy will eventually accept to pay even more to own it."
Bubbles look a lot like a pyramidal scheme to me.

Quantum Algorithms for Airport Operations mean that you can stop planes from crashing into each other by not looking at the screen, which puts the planes in a super-position of "there" and "not there"

I'm old enough to remember when Motley Fool was intended to PREVENT foolish investing decisions.

A Schrödinger cat calender called “Cats in Boxes” would be funny, and a more worthwhile investment.

Well… what can I say? It’s an industry based on hype and not on an actual product. If they don’t sell hype, the bubble blows up 🤷🏻‍♂️

If I bought a Taylor Swift ticket, I would be terribly disappointed that I bought a Taylor Swift ticket.

Thank you, Sabine, for this very instructive video. I feel that quantum computing is one of the fields where there’s significant manipulation by influencers who are paid to shape public perception on what’s worth investing time and money in. Your insights are invaluable!

Sabine, I love this video. You recently put one out about the German culture/economy being weak. I feel the juxtaposition of this video exemplifies that the spirit is strong! Strength in the face of adversity, fearless against the majority media position, precise and unapologetic about the skepticism, with humor to boot. I love all your videos. Viva Sabine!

I have 100$ on IONQ, full disclosure, and it is true that every time I observe the ticker the price/value is different.

The “nearly” Efficient Market Theory says that if the news is in print, the market has already adjusted the stock price to reflect the news. Put another way, your chance of out-performance for the associated risk is random.
Sabine knows more about investing than she lets on when pointing out at 1:14 “these people have found a way to make money from quantum computing” by selling investment reports.

"My stocks won't drop until you look at them!" Sabine at her best! Well, the quantum hype seems to be comparable to the H2 hype. And then we have the fusion hype. Perhaps the only source of energy that could rescue us all if we could get it to work.

the "Taylor Swift" example almost happens to me: I was about to buy not-cheap tickets to a Chicago concert, but it was actually a tribute band playing Chicago music, lol. Luckily, I realized it on time and didn't buy them
