So basically processed and ultra processed food which is not the right direction, it needs to be healthy and less processed that is affordable.

Loblaws expanding their empire, one chain at a time...

Why don't they just lower the prices in their stores, instead of opening new stores?

This isn’t new. Aldi was once in Canada and Robrawz got rid of them. Bring back aldis and trader Joe type stores. Canada lacks competition

Groceries for people who can't afford groceries. Sad state of Canada today

This "expert" is COMPLETELY WRONG. He is OBVIOUSLY part of the whole grocery retail "system".
To him - opening BRAND NEW grocery stores - that include THE COST of buying or renting ADDITIONAL properties, NEVER MIND BUILDING BRAND NEW BUILDINGS or REFITTING existing buildings from another company AND paying for EXTRA STAFF to run these stores - IS CHEAPER!!! than cutting costs of items at EXISTING STORES - where you do NOT need to pay for any of these ADDITIONAL NEW fees!

This is ALL ABOUT IMAGE & NOTHING MORE!

Loblaws DOESN'T WANT to cut any of the costs on their high-profit items - BUT - Loblaws is still TRYING to say - "See, we CARE about the consumer. We are cutting EVERY cost we CAN."
In reality they just want to keep selling products at REALLY, WELL-INFLATED PROFIT-pricing & have certain stores that highlight ONLY their products too! These new stores AREN'T going to carry anything but their lowest cost items they already make the least profit on - & that are ALREADY the cheapest things to buy in their REGULAR stores!

(Additionally - the EXPENSE of CREATING THESE STORES - will be used to go into their "numbers" to show how "they AREN'T overcharging! LOOK how little profit they are making! (in total) - & then they will quietly absorb these stores when the "heat" is off of them into their normal store models (with all of their high profit prices.)

These stores will not even carry items of IMPORTANT NUTRITIONAL NECESSITY to humans (even part of the Canada Food Guide building blocks) - meat, eggs or dairy [or ANY fresh or frozen fruit or vegetables - only their MUCH less healthy canned versions] - (because Loblaws wants people to pay BIG prices for these NECESSITIES - at GREAT PROFIT to themselves!)
Many people with little money will get sucked in, thinking that they will save money IF they shop here instead (for themselves & their families) & end up LIVING on these products (& ONLY these products) as much as they can.

THIS will hurt EVERY CANADIAN in the long-run!
Every Canadian is going to have MORE of their TAX DOLLARS needing to go to MEDICAL EXPENSES for these people who END UP SO NUTRITIONALLY DEFICIENT - children will NOT GROW PROPERLY (INCLUDING ALL of their INTERNAL ORGANS & SYSTEMS!) - ELDERLY people will have MORE SICKNESSES & MORE HOSPITAL STAYS with MORE FALLS (& MORE BROKEN BONES due to NUTRITIONALLY WEAK BONES) & MORE ORGAN (heart, liver, kidney) interruptions & failures & adults in between those ages - will start weakening sooner, with MORE health problems - time off work (hurting them & their families MORE financially) BUT ALSO HURTING BUSINESSES, SERVICE SECTOR jobs - those that do deliveries, are home health care workers & cleaners, those that work in retail stores, kindergarten workers etc. - that affect all of us (or our families.)

This new OUTRAGEOUS PROFIT - AT THE EXPENSE OF PEOPLE - a model coming up across our Southern border, (where $ is more important than people & community) - IS DISGUSTING & MUST BE STOPPED - BY US ALL - as IN THE END - IT HURTS US ALL.
Even worse - when this mentality EXPANDS - & becomes THE INDIVIDUAL - vs. - EVERY OTHER PERSON - (with ZERO sense of MORALITY - AT ALL) - for a person's own individual happiness - (which will be SOLELY defined by how much money they have & nothing else - Meaning that they WON'T be TRULY happy anyways!)

I MUCH prefer the Canadian philosophy of COMMUNITY & HELPING OTHERS (WITH morality!) - (while STILL being able to make a DECENT profit!)
IN FACT - you GAIN MORE loyalty & more of a customer following & "word-of-mouth" FREE advertising (AND therefore MORE profit too) - by following this Canadian "decency" model.
You also don't get hate - (that you then have to spend LOTS of dollars trying to counter to "improve" your public image) - that may, OR MAY NOT work.
This is something ALL the major grocery retailers (& now MANY OTHER even smaller businesses even outside of grocery) should learn!

It is not a coincidence that the first three stores are opening in Ontario after Doug Ford allowed convenience stores and grocery store province wide sell alcohol. I can already see these No Name stores selling and promoting Loblaws branded No Name Beer & Wines along with some cheap corporate brands.😂😂

a dozen eggs in St George Walmart was under a dollar. A gallon of milk was under $2. The only difference there was there was about 10-15 different brands of milk and eggs to choose from not dairyland and Beatrice. clearly we need more competition.

As Dr. Dre said 20 years ago, “mad at me because I can finally afford to provide my family with groceries”

No fresh meat or dairy as no refrigeration will be in these new No Frills stores according to Loblaws. Better than nothing I guess.
