I was completely against smart phones and hung on to my flip phone as long as possible until my kids school made it impossible to be a parent without a smart phone beings I don’t have a computer to check the never ending stream of emails that the school sends out every single day. So here I sit now addicted to watching YouTube videos

As a teacher, I used to complain about grade 7 kids becoming “screenagers.”
In 2023, I’m more alarmed by the negligent PARENTS of these screenagers. 30 ~ 40 year-old PARENTS are now on their phones more than their screenagers.

Finally someone is willing to talk about our birth rate problem.
Except it’s been going on since well before 2007, since the 70s really.

My first pregnancy was ‘07-‘08 and I remember waiting in the OB office waiting room (forever 😂) how it was easy to chat with other moms/families. I’m an introvert but I still appreciate basic societal interaction—a few kind words, etc. By the time I had my 4th child in 2015 NO one would look up, make eye contact, or casually engage in the most basic social greeting type interaction. It’s sad. We shouldn’t be surprised so many people feel isolated and anxious.

Scrolling gives constant dopamine hits to the brain as if something has been accomplished. Its so addictive.

Smart phones were a mistake. Things were better with just PC and Flip Phones.

The scariest part is how right he is that humanity will likely never truly understand the impact this technology has had on us. In 1, 000 years they will debate whether this precipitated the fall of The American Empire.

I was given a smart phone 5 years ago and i have been a hermit ever since. Completely addicted to it. I have days i put it away n dont look at it but its difficult and i spent almost 50 yrs without one. I wonder how those who have grown up with them will ever be able to be without them😢. Its tragic. I totally agree they have taken over and are ruining our lives.

All in a matter of what 25-30 years? I can’t fathom what kind of future our kids will grow up to

But it's people's fault not the phones.
It always comes down to the choices people make.
Blaming the phone is no different than blaming the gun

I think ignoring the current legal system in regards to marriage and child support is a little short sighted. Not to mention the anti Male culture that we are in. All of the incentives have been removed and replaced with punishment. How could you be surprised to see it drop.

My daughter was Wrecked by the smartphone I gave her at age 12. I then gave my son a smartphone at the end of his Sophomore year of high school because of what happened to her. He doesn't do FB, instagram, tictoc, snapchat....I have a hard time getting him to answer my texts in a reasonable time!!

2007 was also the start of the Global Financial Crisis, where people lost lost of money, and have not recovered. If people don't have money, they may opt out of having more kids

I've never been into video games and smartphone games. Recently however I decided to download a couple of solitaire games onto my phone and I'm not quite sure why, but I did. I had these two little games downloaded on my phone for a period of about 4 days and I felt literally poisoned playing those games on my phone. Today add a break I deleted those apps and I took a hour bike ride. I feel a thousand percent better now.

Low birth rate is quite literally one of the only positives I would argue was beneficial from technology.

I didn't get a smartphone in 2007. I hat a regular phone. Once I got a smartphone I couldn't figure out how I ever lived without one. I no longer even use my computer or laptop.

My barber told me that a young newlywed couple came into her shop for haircuts. There were people ahead of them so they had to wait. She said they spent the entire time staring into and fidgeting with their respective cell phones. Imagine when they are older! 😶

I think that he has a point with smartphones. They didn't make our lives better. However, in 2008 the housing crisis hit the world. I think during crisis people tend to wait and do not want to procreate because they might be afraid of the future.

It was about 12 years ago I went into a bar I wanted to try out. There was really good music playing and karaoke was about to start, the bar tender was friendly, young crowd, all the best things for a successful place. Two girls walked in, all dressed up like they were looking for a good time, but they sat down at the end of the bar ordered their drinks and proceeded to stare at their phones for the next 3 hours NOT EVEN SPEAKING TO EACH OTHER! I remember thinking " what's the point why didn't you just stay at home?"
