I translated what she said below for those interested:

"Hi everyone! My name is Candy, I'm from Madagascar and I'm twenty years old. Right now I'm studying multimedia and I also work at a documentary production company. We're here in the Philippines now (I didn't catch the exact name of the place in the Philippines, it sounded like a club or foundation). I speak Malagasy, French, and English, but today I'm going to speak specifically about the Malagasy language.

Malagasy has several different variations/dialects depending on the tribe and where you are, like Betsileo or Antandroy. But the main dialect is Merina, it's the official dialect. Aside from that, a lot of Malagasy people speak French.

I'm a translator for this club here in the Philippines, I came here to represent the Malagasy people and to spread awareness about the Malagasy language to more people around the world. Thanks for listening until the end, bye!"

My father is/was fluent in Malagasy, but he hasn't used it in around 40 years. It's nice to hear a short conversation in it.

I'm always interested to hear Malagasy spoken, I'm curious as it was said to be related to my language, Tagalog (Filipino).

The capital of Madagascar is Antananarivo which means Land of the Thousands. If translated to Malay, it is Tanah Seribu. Sounds similar doesn't it?

I'm here after watchong an awesome dialogue between a Madagascarian girl Cynthia and a Moldovan girl Djulieta ("Madagascar versus Moldova") on the channel 'Living in Moldova with Djulieta'.
I fell in love the Malagasy as soon as I heard it! 😍
Greetings from Ukraine! 🇺🇦 (Eastern Europe)

Merina and Betsileo people look similar to us, Filipinos and Indonesians. Those living in the coastal towns look more Papuan, because they intermarried with Bantu tribes from African mainland.

Interesting, I know that malagasy people and language have little to do with North East Africa or the horn (Somalia, Ethiopia) but I learnt that the name Madagascar comes from somali! A Portuguese sailor mistook the island for the capital of Somalia, Mogadishu so the name Mogadishu eventually developed into Madagascar.

Even though this lady is African, you can tell her language is Austronesian. You could almost mistake her for a Filipino. I never heard this language spoken before but it is strangely familiar and lovely to listen to.
