9:20 2 guys behind you showing how not to hit drops lol

It's a great video, but I think it shows two different tehnique - one is what the video is about... and the perfect demonstration of this is drop at 11:03. But this what You show in video (or most of the drops from practice) is "THE PUSH" tehnique (Ben Cathro shows it in Pinkbike's "How to bike" series)... just look at 9:40 - there is a push "slightly forward and down with your chest over the stem and pushing the bike from that position at the angle of the landing"... there is no lifting front wheel and landing on back wheel.

Tehnique the video is all about is very good with drops with flat landing because you can absorbe landing on flat or even on back wheel with legs (like trial riders do when dropping from the edge). As @jaad7562 said - push is safer and most common tehnique used during ride. What do you think?

I just imagine a glass barrier that I have to smash though at the lip of the drop, then spot your landing and aim for it just as your front wheel leaves the platform. It even works at trials speed where you start with one pedal stroke starting with your front wheel at the lip.

Older vid on this channel with Lee called for getting “luxury” low on the bike and doing an anti-row to make the landing. Seemed like a really simple technique. If I recall it didn’t mention getting back over the rear axle. Any reason to choose one technique over the other?

Great video. Hopefully you guys helped the guy doing the drop behind Mike at around 9:15 in the video. Always good to work on refining technique. Thank you.

This drop technique really seems most suited for hucks to flat, great if you're mainly riding up in Wyoming (Gowdy is full of hucks to flat), or hitting the wood drops in Village Greens in Denver. The technique of getting low, pushing forward and matching the angle of the landing works better on drops with downhill landings, like the drops in Valmont and Erie in this video and ledge drops you'd commonly see on tech trails. The GMBN manualing technique is for when you really don't have enough speed for the drop.

hurt a little to see a demonstration that's the closest i have to a manual right now, then hear "it is not a manual whatsoever" ;) it's cool though i know i have a lot more practicing to do there! thanks for another awesome how to video -- they're so helpful both for improving my own technique and giving me more ways to explain to the youth mountain biking lessons i coach with!

my home trails have a set of standalone drops that i'm only comfortable on the shortest so far. i'm almost certain i'm popping / hopping off the drop and it's making me feel like i'll miss the landing. probably not true but also might have more confidence to try after more practice moving my weight back instead of up

I noticed that the bigger the drop you actually changed your technique, I’m sure people will argue that it’s the same. But it’s not. If you look closer You will notice their body shifts forward prior to front wheel leaving. And their now landing more central not definitely not on the back wheel like they suggest most of the way through this video

What do you do for drops that you can't get speed for like a tall root drop that comes at the end of a hairpin? You can only get so far back and if you're forced to go slow enough then the front wheel will eventually drop before the rear (at least for many of us). Thanks guys. Your vids are the best!

Chase's technique at 9:40 is easiest in my opinion for most drops. With a bit of speed, extend the arms and retract legs as you go over the edge.

Thanks for the video. How do you handle drops that instead of a nice smooth deck there is a bump or rock right at the end. It always tends to make my bike pitch forward when the back wheel hits it.

Great one guys. I been riding for quite sometimes now. But I still chicken out on drop :(. How to conquer it.

Going slightly forward and down with your chest over the stem and pushing the bike from that position at the angle of the landing is much better and safer default dropping technique.

Question. I've been riding for a few years now and have done multiple drops with various heights. Lately, I've transitioned to riding an ebike. Somehow, the back wheel tends to drop first and I end up landing uncomfortably front wheel high. Any thoughts?

So...if the take-off is angled up, it's the same technique?

Nice vid. What trail is that at 12:14?

like so many videos out there you don't seem to actually do what you try to explain. And both seem to have a different techniques
