Top 10 dog breeds from Turkey. Turkey has a long tradition in shepherding, which is why there is a need for strong livestock guardian dogs. And indeed, majority of the Turkish breeds are livestock guardians, but there are some exceptions of cute small companions as well. In this video i will show you 10 turkish dog breeds.

I just got a six month old female Akbash puppy. I'm used to huskies so this is a new experience for me. From reading up on LGDs it sounds as if they are supposed to be more laid back and less energetic than huskies. That hasn't been my experience so far. My Akbash is every bit as energetic as my last husky was. And she insists on going out to play outside even when it's -35. And she is surprisingly fast and agile for a large gangly puppy. I thought that my husky was headstrong and stubborn but the Akbash is even more so. She's mouthy but affectionate too. I hope she grows out of the chewing and digging because she's a bit of a monster in that regard. I named her "Zara" which is Turkish for "radiance" or "luminosity".

Great video! Owned a kangal who was a challenge at times but was the funniest dog I ever had. Always amazed me how intelligent he was...trying to be one step ahead of me.

Malakli is also the biggest dog breed alive. Much bigger than dane and irish wolfhound

Thanks for explaining, most simpleton turks (myself included) don't know the difference themselves. Didn't know about Boz, we just call the big Boz's for Kangals in everyday language and all other dogs for Coban Kopegi. Sivas Kangals are another level of the regular Kangals (Boz to be correct, as I just learned). Disclaimer, I am only talking from inner anatolia, I can't speak for other areas in Turkey.

We have a male Turkish Boz Shepherd and he is huge. He is an outstanding coyote dog and covers a 14 acre area. The FedEx and Amazon delivery drivers are terrified of him and they throw the packages in the driveway. They are very smart and courageous dogs (loving too).

Yeah, a friend had a big one called ski, always led to believe "Anatolian carabash"looked like Kangal, was only six in Britain then 1980, he was on the cover ov a Barbara Woodhouse dog training LP !! Can't find one on YouTube, probably can't spell it properly 😂

Can someone explain the differences with the boz shepherd and the malaklisi?
Been looking at both as looking to get one with my partner, what’s a better family dog? Better temperament and better with other dogs? And also their rough weight in both breeds? Thank you

My friend has a shepard, & I'm amazed that she has such a hilarious calm gental way', & brilliantly so did the also fukn clever Anatolian goats down the road, who'd not be bullied by the other various breeds, while childre were feeding them, they hung back & quickly worked out i was trying to target feed them chucking a load left, to cuddle & personally feed them, without uninvited horns !!! Xxx

Btw, I was told by a top kangal breeder that the American anatolian shepherd is mostly a mix of kangal and akbash.

Mate, I am a Turkish. I have to correct you that Akbashes are not the fastest dog in the Turkish dog breeds. Female Kangals are the fastest ones. They can chase wolves and catch them. I mean they have the most possibility to catch wolves. Of course other shepard dogs can catch as well, but female Kangal dogs have more chance.

We’re currently fostering a Turkish dog that I believe is an Anatolian Shepherd. Am I right in thinking that Kangol and Anatolian are the same dog, just the name changed?

KARS SHEPHERD IS VERY SIMILAR AS GEORGIAN CAUCAUSUS -NAGAZI AND ŠARPLANINAC ( origin from ŠAR PLANINA -"Dog from Shar Mountain" / TRANSLATE FROM SERBIAN language - from SERBIA and MACEDONIA.

Most of this dogs are indigenous to South East Turkey and Northern iraq, so that makes them kurdish breed . Stop making everything turkish
