How to Convert Lowrance Waypoints to Garmin Unit GPSMAP - Waypoint Conversion

How to transfer waypoints, routes, and trails from a Lowrance unit to a Garmin units the simple way.

Lowrance units default to a .USR file format and Garmin defaults to a .ADM file format. In the past you would have to download conversion software for your computer and then hope that works when you transfer that onto the unit.

Both units now can save the files in a .GPX format which is a universal format regardless of manufacturer. Waypoint icons will not transfer as both companies use different ones. Your waypoints and routes will transfer without a problem. If you have long trails you may lose some data on them when you transfer.

If you do not have a unit that exports in the .GPX format you can save the waypoints from your unit in the Version 2.0 format. Then install them on a HDS unit and export them in GPX.

Thanks! I have a different Garmin unit (newer) and you have to go into your "NAV INFO" to transfer. This worked perfectly.

Wow. That was well done! Will your Garmin now record any new waypoints you set as a GPX ? Is that OK or should you reset your Garmin unit to its original file extension? Thanks again.

If someone saved their waypoints from a Lowrance unit and gave me the disk, do I then just have to simply insert the disk into the Garmin head unit, convert to GPX, then merge? Or do I need a Garmin folder on the disk like you have shown in the video?

Hey Larry, Any reason data going from a Lowrance HDS12 to a Garmin 740s wouldn't work? Got through all the steps and once I got to the Garmin to import data from Lowrance the file wasn't there? I saw the data (hourglass turning) complete while downloading from the Lowrance. Any suggestions?
