That Time a New York Yankee Faced Off Against an Ostrich in a Spaghetti Eating Contest

In this video:

Tom Waits’ raspy, almost growl-like singing voice has become synonymous with the singer and has been variously described by critics as sounding like it was “soaked in whiskey” or alternatively like it was “hit by a car”.

I'm in my 40s. I can remember my father listening to Tom Waits as a young fellow. Now I'm older and am wiser to his music and person, I have deep respect for him. Ashame more people can't see his genius

I didn't think I could like Tom Waits more, until now.

You're missing one more hilarious detail - the song in question, Step Right Up is a satire and parody of over the top advertising.

There was a Tom Waits quote that I can't find now about the songs not really being his any more once he'd released them out to the public, and about allowing to be used in adverts would cheapen them for people to whom they really meant something. He's a class act in so many ways.

Now I like Tom Waits even more, a class act I wish more of the famous would emulate. Any time I hear of these type of tactics from advertising --cesspools-- agencies, I always think of Bill Hicks' standup rant on advertising. If you have not heard this bit, I highly recommend it.

Love Tom Waits.
The irony of Frito-Lay using "Step Right Up" in a commercial is that Waits is slamming advertisers; calling them con-artists and crooks. I guess Waits was on to something.

Yet another reason why Tom Waits is held in such high esteem.

Just another reason to love Tom Waits.

I love how their defence was basically "Tom Waits isn't famous enough to matter"

"Don't you know there ain't no devil. There's just God when he's drunk"

Tom's idea of a commercial, listen to his song "Step Right Up"

yet another reason to admire Tom Waits, a man of high moral character, and great taste in film collaborators. Fuck he's cool.

The brilliance of this isn't so much the description of Waits' voice, but that it's now legally described as such.

Also, accurate.

Waits's voice has been described as, 'soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, then taken outside and run over with a car.'

$2.6M... Yeah, that's a pile of potato chips.
I totally understand and support Tom Waits and the many other artists who get ripped off every year.
Creating anything of value is challenging enough without having to worry about your art being stolen by big companies, politicians needing a campaign theme, or even your own record company or management. Much respect to Tom Waits!

Speaking of advertisements I seen a billboard that said “Texting and Driving isn’t worth it” and had a number to text to get more information on it! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
