I have one of these installed on my lift-out garage door and has scared off two separate intruders. It's worth the money, for sure. You can also purchase flash-bang style shells (about $35 for 20 rounds). Be careful of placement for a fire hazard, or place an old metal coffee/vegetable can underneath the front of the round to amplify the noise and reduce the chance of a fire.

3/4 galvanized steel conveniently fits over a 12g shotshell.

A warning: Be careful with placement!! Some punks were using an old trail to access an out building my dad used to store yard tools and stuff in about an acre away from the house. We used one of these devices to 'mine' the trail in hope's of scaring them off. One night, we heard the 12ga blank go off, but by time we got to the trail, there was a fairly good sized brush fire burning, prob a good 50 foot square. We got it out quickly before it could damage the shed. Thank God we had checked it out cuz if we didn't, the shed and contents would have probably burned up. MAKE SURE that there is nothing flammable within @ least a 8 foot radius to prevent BTW...it worked, it scared the punks away and they haven't been back in almost a year.

They make a blank adapter for this that you put 209 primers in if you only wish to use it for noise. They are less of a fire hazard, vent to the sides to avoid any "booby trap" lawsuits, and are significantly cheaper for multiple uses. Just a thought.

I saw a Video where a guy rigged one up on his Porch because thieves were stealing his packages .
When the next Porch Pirate tryed to steal a box off his porch, it went off and the thief litteraly crapped his pants and fell on the ground screaming . He sat on the porch, hyperventalating and you thought he was going die from a heart attack .

I'm doing that at my apartments when I move out. My upstairs neighbors will love it.

I have a bunch of these and I love them. They actually sell an attachment so you can just use black powder caps. Much cheaper. You can use multiple eyelets to cover more of the perimeter.

I have these when I go backpacing overnight to create a perimeter around my tent. Rathdrum, Idaho is where I get them from. I drive by there when I visit my daughter in Spirit Lake. I use both but most times I use smaller version that uses blastinging caps as they are less dangerous.

I worked in the machine shop that makes these for fifth ops. I am responsible in part for many of these now in use.

I actually have my tied up on the back door on my work van. About 6 months ago I had a bunch of my tools stolen from a van, so that's why I decided to use it ther. Then a month later it happened again but you can tell it's scared the s***out of them cuz they left a backpack and some of the tools they used to break into houses or cars. I think using bird shot helped also,

These are great with the 12ga style flares sold for boating. On a large plot of property, you can have varying color flares, and have the signalling trip device pointed upwards. Someone trips, and a flare signalling their location gets released.
We had an opportunity, friends and i, during a multiday/night milsim style paintball match, to try this. It worked BEAUTIFULLY to alert half of our camp to a group trying to grab our flag around 3am. Boy... when our sentries on watch saw that flare go up, they half forgot ans half were in disbelief someone had triggered it!

It was prrtty neat
