Some things are better left unsaid. This saying could not be more true when it comes to keeping our secrets. While being open is a good virtue as people like genuine feeling coming from being an open book, there are some things you should keep to yourself.

I would say even with friends you should be careful because the day you are no longer friends, it’s like digging your own grave if you have shared so many secrets.

He should've added, "especially on social media." In general, he's right. You share something with anyone, even someone you trust, that means you've lost control of it. The person you trust today may not be someone you trust in the future. The one thing he didn't say that he should have is, "Don't tell people how smart you are, how tough you are or how good you are at something." It's best when they find out for themselves.

I prefer to be alone, so don't share much and prefer quiet, and as little company as possible - as a teen, my home was the "hang out" to MANY pals - it became invasive & annoying - as an adult, I greatly value my privacy & singularity. I've never had a facebook page.

I would add not to share any sensitive health information (physical &/or mental/emotional) that could later be used against you. It's a sad fact that there are cruel & devious people out there masquerading as friends.

A few of these I learned the hard way. Some 'friends' may use your weaknesses and insecurities against you, even reinforce them to benefit themselves. As well as give out all your secrets and confidences like chewing gum. If you have a secret you can never tell anyone. once you tell them you've lost control of it forever.
