In WOTLK Cobalt Ore is Fantastic to make gold without ever using the AH.
Lets say you mined 1000 Cobalt Ore.
Smelt them into Cobalt Bars, and then make them into Cobalt Triangle Shields.
It takes 4 bars each to make a shield soo thats 250 shields you will have, Then you can sell the shields to the NPCs for 5 gold each... So thats 1250 gold profit, doing this can also get you Eternal Water / Air/ and Earth that can be sold of the action house too.

The only problem with this gold farming tip its very time consuming, but its a guaranteed income.
