My college roommate who was a guitarist (I'm a guitarist as well) showed me Guthrie in 2010 the very same night he discovered him and we both sat at the computer watching Guthrie videos for at least 8 hours straight that night. We continued to find more videos for at least another 6 months and got obsessed with him.

Nobody, I mean NOBODY plays like Guthrie.

Tbh, when I first heard him in 2012 I didn't enjoy his music as you need some mature ears to truly appreciate Guthrie. Gradually as my ears matured, by 2014 he was the only thing I wanted to listen and imitate. Undoubtedly, the BEST guitarist till date. Melody, technique, harmonies, musicality, structure everything blows me off everytime.

I first heard of Guthrie while reading Guitar Techniques magazine where he was a regular columnist. He’d show flashes of his virtuosity in the audio lessons but these videos really put his skills on full display

It’s not that he’s just so crazy fast, accurate and clean….It’s that he’s the absolute best at being so lyrical and melodious while playing flawlessly at the speed of light! Not one of the current YT speed demons can even come close when you add _poetic phrasing_ to the equation! 🎉
