it blows my mind when you think of how much huge talent died in plane crashes back then touring. Buddy Holly, Ritchie Vallens, Big Bopper, Jim Croce, Patsy Cline, Otis Redding, Stevie Ray Vaugan and Lynyrd Skynyrd. A huge loss of talent just trying to get to the next show to make a few bucks and people happy.

Dion was supposed to be on that plane, but he gave his spot up to Ritchie cause Ritchie was sick and also cause Dion didn’t wanna waste his money on his portion of the cost for the plane. My hometown was where they played their last show. I was very lucky to have prom and other various events at The Surf Ballroom. I never realized how special it was until after I graduated. I love going there and finding my great grandpa's signature in the green room with all of the amazing singers and bands. If you're a music fan, HIGHLY recommend taking a tour or catching a concert there.

Up until the 1970s, private plane aviation was the wild west. These planes were overloaded, and the service records were ignored. Several actors and singers were killed in small plane crashes.

IIRC, Sonny Curtis was also in the Crickets at the time and took up singing duties as the tour did NOT end with the deaths of Holly, Valens, and Richardson (Big Bopper).
