Base models rarely get reviewed in detail! In this video, Peter goes through the new 2022 Hyundai Tucson Essential to show you all of the great features. As Peter says, base models are all about compromise, the manufacturer has to choose some features to put in the vehicle, and choose which features to leave for higher trim levels, and Peter says that this Tucson is just about perfect!

Ive be watching many of these reviews over the last few weeks. I LOVE your style of reviewing. Doing a Base review is so so good. You’re the only one doing it. THANK YOU. I’ll admit. I’m cheaper and I always want to see the base car.

Base model review should be mandatory, many people buy the base and not the ultra top version

I have an essential model which I bought brand new in July of 2021. Most features, and it is loaded with features, I don’t use or have need for. One in particular that I think is important is the temperature gauge. The first summer, winter and the past summer the pointer on the temperature gauge always pointed to the middle of the gauge when driving and the engine coolant was supposedly at normal operating temp. Something has changed in the past few weeks. The gauge is graduated in increments of 1/8th. The middle of the gauge is 4 1/8ths, or 1 half. The problem now is that the pointer only gets close to mid scale if you let the engine idle for some time. When driving on the highway the pointer never reaches half scale, it drifts between 1/8th, 1/4 and 3/8ths. It will go to 3/8ths, stay for a bit and then fall to 1/4 or 1/8th. When the problem became apparent I called the service department where I bought the car and informed them I needed a new thermostat I was informed that the car didn’t use a thermostat, that the system was more advanced than that. When I took the car in for it’s scheduled service I assumed the problem was resolved, however on my way home the condition still existed. I returned to the dealership and stopped just outside the service bay door. I remained in the car with the engine running and the drivers window down. When the service manager came out I explained why I had returned, he put his right hand into the car close to the upper heat vent closest to the door. He said you are getting heat, not to worry about the temp gauge as the engine block is made out of aluminum and that is the reason the gauge does not stay in one position. The heat was not excessive and the outdoors temp was around zero. How much heat will I be getting in the car when it is -30c in this area, which is quite common here? His explanation made no sense to me. If the gauge is reading the temperature of the engine coolant, why is it constantly changing position while you are driving at a constant speed on the highway. When on the highway I drive mostly in cruise mod. 🤪🤔

I checked out the '22 Tucson today, in anticipation of the Santa Cruz Ultimate I have on pre-order. If this Tuscon had been on sale last summer, we wouldn't have picked up an Equinox. The room and comfort in the '22 is fantastic! Hyundai did a really great job with it. Love the new front end and extra size. Still, can't wait for my Santa Cruz - or your live stream when you finally get one in. I was going for the Preferred/Trend ... but wife said get the ventilated seats, so the Ultimate is on pre-order. :)

Also, as far as the low signal lights on the back go ... I'm in camp "they should be higher for visibility" BUT the argument about not being able to see them at a stop light or whatnot is BS. You're supposed to stop far enough behind the vehicle in front of you that you can see their rear wheels on the ground. If you can't see those headlights, you're already many feet too close.

I bought a new 2021 Tucson in June of this year and 3 weeks ago I bought a new 2022 Tucson SEL W OPTIONS!! THE 2022 is awesome compared to the 2021 Tucson! The 2021 had a 2.0. 4 cylinder ran way better than I thought it would, it got way better gas mileage than my new 2022 w the 2.5 liter I love the 2022 Tucson!!

I was just looking at the SEL AWD in the Quartz white, those size wheels are ALL you need and you're right about higher profile tires being safer off road. I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee for a 2nd vehicle and i think this has MORE interior room than my GC and like the fold down seats, my Jeep i need to remove the bottom part of the seat and put them somewhere in order to have the seats lay almost flat, i also lose plenty of space with the full sized spare located in the rear compartment.

I just bought mine a week ago. Exact same color. I got the based model. I love it. I didn’t need much and felt it was a mixed of everything. I actually don’t have heated seats in my base model😕everything else is the exact same

I'm kind of a do it myself kind of guy, is there any way you could get under the vehicle and show us things like the oil drain plug and transmission drain plug? those are pretty basic maintenance tasks that I do myself rather than pay someone to do for me. Also I would've like to have heard the speakers and the horn. Thanks I think this review was the best I've seen so far.

A seller should note: a good thing not to have a roof rack: it is much easier to remove the snow on the roof without the permanent rails. With our last storm here in gatineau I could comfirm . Previous car was rav4 with roof rail and it was pita to clean the roof.

How can I get a demo of the way to get the 2nd row of seats to fold down...I rescue dogs and I need the space to carry them... we have no 2022 Tucsons locally for me to see... altho' some should be coming in within the next month or so. {Florida}
