As for the tablet, for me it would be a hard pass due to the advertising thing along with the forced compensation that you're railroaded into if you decide you want to pay extra for the same product except without ads.

I say that because when I'm buying something, I have a desired solution for something I need it for and in this case it's a tablet to maybe run games, or load movies onto etc. and I've never had a need or want to support Amazon's marketing department. So for that reason it's an "I'm out" for me.

We ran Minecraft on the 2019 version but it became too sluggish after only a year. The 10 inch versions seem to have noticeably faster processors so I'll be interested to see what price and spec the larger devices come out with with they are updated. FYI, Amazon Luna always has around 4 games that can be played for free if you’re a Prime member. They cycle new free games in each month, so there should be something you can use for testing without needing to subscribe to anything. Great review as always!

This thing was my go-to manga reader for a long time until it just go too sluggish to even bother. Best size and form factor for reading with color, in my opinion. Nice to see they finally updated the processor. Might hop on this come Prime Day.

I've had an Amazon Fire Tablet in the past I was given for free as a gift, and Fire OS is just horrible, and it's why when I recently replaced my ONN tablet, I spent the extra money on a Nokia T20 with a more stock version of Android 11, and Play Store access out of the box, plus the battery life is good, the screen is nice, the processor is fairly snappy, and the cameras are actually usable on it, unlike most tablets I've had, and do have.

The previous generation Fire 7, I had for 2 mins and put it back in the box.Way too many fingerprints. Ordered a glass screen protector... WOW what a difference that made. It went from a cheap fingerprint MAGNET to a nice clean useful tablet. The problem was, the screen protector cost 11 bucks. LOL. Cheers. PS. Thanks for the Great video!

I recently bought a reconditioned one for $29 and the case for $14. I always wanted to try a tablet. I I find it works pretty well. My old wifi radio has been getting tired and not all podcasts would no longer work. I found about all of my favorite podcasts and so far so good. Pluto, FreeVee, work well. I could not get the old legacy app going for the Tablo, but the new one is listed if I get one in the future. It does have the app for Fire TV channels including the Recast app, and I do have a Recast, so that way I do get my 36 OTA channels. For $42, I cannot complain. It does more than I expected.

Did you say only 90 day warranty? We get a year in the UK minimum.. whatever the manufacturers say.. legal protections are just better. Could include a note about warranty’s may vary upon your location also. Nice balanced review, very tempted to upgrade my children’s older 8s to these as they are pretty terrible now!

I had the newest Fire HD 8 and it can at least play 720p HD videos since it has a 800p screen. But I found it bit sluggish after adding Google Play services so I ugraded to the Fire HD 10 and have been very happy with a 1080p resolution screen. It's 2022 and 1080p should be the norm now.

Great video! Just discovered that I can’t buy music or books/magazines off the Amazon iOS or Android apps anymore so I’m considering this little device. I know I can sign in through a browser, but for how inexpensive this device is, it’s worth getting for purchasing and general use.
As I’m watching this review, I love how Amazon gives us more features than some of the more expensive devices like the headphone jack in addition to Bluetooth, the sd card slot, the front camera in the horizontal position instead of portrait, and usb-c. It’s only downfall for me is how slow it is, but Amazon never made these for speed… thanks for putting this video out there! I think you confirmed I just need to get this.

I got one of these to replace my Paperwhite that got a screen chip. The battery life was absolute ass even with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off, finding books in my library (especially docs) was difficult, and it kept wanting to go back to the Home Screen between reading sessions. Instead of primarily being a great book reader (which is what I wanted), it was trying to be too many things, poorly. I have an iPad to be my tablet, thanks. I wound up getting a new generation Paperwhite and I’m super pleased with it.

Also can you actually buy books from Amazon off the device? I noticed you can't do that anymore from any android Amazon app.

I am still using my old Fire 7 that I rooted and put on Lineage OS - works fine for the simple uses I do and was only $30. I am not sure you can root the new models though to get rid of all the Amazon OS and stuff.

Imagine if you will if we could have 1 store for all apps across Android, IOS, and Amazon.
Kinda like how steam is available on windows, macos, and linux.
Yes some apps won't work across each platform. But if we could buy 1 app with each of it's versions available. That would be a dream.
