“Spaceman” II Fantasy High Animatic

I wanted to get this done two weeks ago when the final ep of FHJY came out, but I severely underestimated what was needed to finish it lol. For a first time animatic I think it turned out pretty okay!

Absolutely loved this season so I took a bit from the first couple episodes and made a whole animatic for them. Slay 💅💅💅

All the little details in this video really make me realise just how much life was put into the universe of Fantasy High, especially Junior Year. Some people think it was rushed or too different from the first two seasons, but in reality, it's just because it already has so much information inside that they don't need to pump more knowledge into the viewers' brains.

Kristen fully forsaking Sol and Helio in favour of Cassandra, cutting her hair off, and constantly working out. How she tears the polaroid of herself and Tracker only to tape it back together because she doesn't want to feel as if they hate each other now, even though she keeps a close eye on Wolfsong.

Adaine using the journey as a reason to look back on herself, something she'd rarely do because she divines the future. How her phone background is Jawbone, one of the only people that ever really sat down with her to talk about her problems, and someone she genuinely trusts with her life, which only hits harder when I remember that Jawbone worked tirelessly to try and officially adopt her. How she still sees Aelwyn as a big sister. How happy she probably was when she returned to Mordred to find a late birthday cake; Jawbone and Sandra Lynn could have just welcomed them back, but instead they made sure they knew that they were home.

Fabian becoming more dependent during the Sunless Summer because he's so used to having new friends all the time, and being cooped up with the other Bad Kids means he has to make-do. Finding Ecaf was probably a godsend for him: someone that completely idolises him because that's what he wants, even though he's looking at a reflection of himself. He needed that. How, despite the fact that he just vanquished the Night Yorb, he goes home to find that his mother is leaving him to go on holiday. He has to grow up so incredibly fast because nobody else wants to wait for him. Just because he turns eighteen doesn't mean he's an adult, he needs time to adjust that he didn't have because of his summer-break adventure.

Gorgug having to cut ties with Zelda completely and bury the hatchet that was their long-distance relationship. How distantly close he was to the rest of the Bad Kids for the Sunless Summer; he owns the Hangvan, he makes the Solar Lasso, he befriends Squeem, he does his best, and yet he's treated like everybody else. He might not have noticed how much effort he put in in order to save the world, and at the end of the day, it'll just be a footnote. But he's happy that he did something good, and that's all he really cares about. It's a pure innocence that needs to be protected and he doesn't even realise it.

Riz working tirelessly to help the crew, much like Gorgug, completely invested in finding the Night Yorb. How he has to say goodbye to his mother, who he knows is probably thinking hard about how her husband is an angel, and technically still alive, in order to save the world and her at the same time from an endless night. He knows Sklonda is going to worry over him, because she always does, but it's a bitter pill he swallows. He stays headstrong in the face of adversity and only really takes a breath when the work is done, and it's then that he probably realises how overworked he is.

Fig having her own problems with herself, and being cooped up in the Hangvan almost all summer just lets those problems fester. Her identity crises when she takes the forms of Dr. Keller, Detective Decker, Hilda Hilda, and Wanda Childa, while all completely bizarre and outlandish, still touched the lives of others. Her dilemmas of choosing whether to continue her deception of those she talks to or cutting loose clearly takes a toll on her. Her estranged relationships with all three of her fathers: Gorthalax's aura of being an archfiend dwindles away when he becomes the Owlbears' coach, Gilear is Gilear, and Jawbone tries to settle her rebellious spirit. They all tug on who she wants to be, but who she is is someone that they already love. She thinks they want her to change, when in reality they just challenge her to stay as herself. Missing Ayda during the Sunless Summer probably felt awful, and learning that she was leaving right as she returns must have pulled on her heartstrings something fierce.

oh you did such a good job expressing that burnout and the subtle tragedy of spending the summer with your closest friends losing old relationships and working yourselves to the bone instead of recuperating. Excellent work! Your interpretations of the Bad Kids are so expressive and unique, it made it really easy to tell who was who. Excellent stuff

a bit late to the party, but this is one of the best fh animatics i've seen, the way it shows small events that have worn them down and their effects throughout the first episodes is really amazing, i especially love how you showed figs alter egos and her reluctance to find who she is. also, THE STARMAKER SAYS

this is your FIRST animatic? holy cow i had to keep pausing to catch all the little details and rewind to appreciate everything, like other people have said this is probably my favourite FH animatic/art i've gotten the pleasure of witnessing. one of the comments here already summarizes all the goodies you packed here for each character's arc, but i gotta reiterate just how much i LOVE the progression of kristen's character here - how she became somewhat jaded over the events of the summer and thus becoming into the person we see in junior year. you really tied together the drastic changes these poor kids had to go through, in a span of 2 MONTHS OH MY GOD THESE KIDS...ugh i love this animatic so much, thank you for making it and sharing it with us <3

i come back every so often to watch this and without fail it always brings me to the brink of tears. the upbeat but also melancholic song plus the highs and lows of their summer is just so *chefs kiss* i will continue to routinely visit this video whenever i think about the bad kids... crying sobbing

Can’t express how much I adore this! I like to think the Bad Kids got like a week or two of a normal summer after Sophomore year for my own sanity before the Night Yorb kicks off.

You did such a good job of packing in so much detail, giving each of them a focus that felt like you really understood where there characters were and have been and are by the time the first day of Junior year rolls around. Like, the touches of Kristen progressively changing and how Cassandra does in relation to her. And the touches in each design-! Like Fig having Aydas’ feather and Rizs’ mystery board; not to mention the parallel of the hangvan at the start of the video and then at the end.

Fantasy high means so much to me but seeing everyone’s interpretations is also so meaningful!

This is probably my favorite fantasy high animatic! The storytelling of the summer we weren’t able to watch is just beautiful! Plus the song choice was perfect I listen to this song almost every day now cuz of this vid! Please continue to make more animatics and such it’s just so amazing!

I didnt write a long comment the first time I saw this because it was super late at night and I was too tired to think. But omg this has so much heart in it. You have all the little details, like fig's phone case being ayda to Kristin working out in half the shots to show how she is buff now. And I love how you used Cassandra for the one line that keeps getting more and more mad adding the only color to show the red - perfectly capturing what is to come. Plus I love the little friendship moments, like Kristin and Gorgug being sad together about their breakups and the shots from the final fight too. For an adventure we know basically nothing about you made it feel very "Bad Kids" with both the music choice and the fun moments through out. Thanks so much for making this! I am absolutely keeping my eye out for more things you do!!

This was great! The main thing I wish we could get in regards to FHJY is a brief look into the period before the season. I want to see what happened between Gorgug and Zelda and between Kristen and Tracker
