Wernher von Braun, a German and later American engineer and scientist, created the Saturn V rocket that propelled the Apollo mission to the Moon. Originally working for the Nazi Party during WW2, Wernher von Braun was captured and taken to the United States, where he worked for the National Air and Space Administration. Wernher von Braun’s contributions to the field of spaceflight are considered the most important by many, and Wernher von Braun remains one of the greatest rocket scientists in history. I do not believe he was in any way a Nazi or sympathetic to Nazi ideals. He didn't join the German army, it was more like they annexed him to join. He did so to pursue his greater goal, manned space craft for space exploration. I'm glad the US got him and not the Russians.
