About this video: This video is our complete guide on how to fix the Exit Code 1 crash in Minecraft. The Exit Code 1 error typically occurs when playing Minecraft mods with Forge. However, it can occur with the Fabric mod loader and even vanilla Minecraft as well.

Before we get started with fixing the Exit Code 1 error though, it’s worth noting that sadly, this isn’t a one solution fits all crash. In this video, we give you the primary things to try to fix the Exit Code 1 crash. However, there may be other solutions that will work for you. If you find them, let us know in the comments, and we can add them to the article linked above.

First things first, the most common way to fix the Exit Code 1 error is by checking your Minecraft mods and confirming there aren’t any issues with them. For example, all mods need to be for the correct mod loader. Fabric mods will not work with Forge and Forge mods will not work with Fabric. If you have a mod for the wrong mod loader installed, it can cause the Exit Code 1 crash.

Another thing to look at in regards to mods causing the Exit Code 1 error is your mods being for the wrong version of Minecraft. Mods made for Minecraft 1.20.1 will not work in 1.20.2 even. Everything, including the sub version, must be made for the version of Minecraft you are playing, or Exit Code 1 could occur.

The last thing to look at in regards to mods is missing compatibility, library, and dependency mods. Often, this will make Minecraft not start with Forge and cause it to crash with Exit Code 1. Sadly, this can be hard to troubleshoot, but usually mods will list any compatibility mods they have on their download page.

Now, what if you have determined that mods are the issue. Maybe Minecraft is still crashing with no mods installed at all. Well, if you have checked the mods and are still having the Exit Code 1 error occur, it is most likely the graphics drivers.

This is commonly an issue with AMD computers with integrated graphics. However, it can occur with dedicated AMD graphics cards and Nvidia GPUs as well.

To fix this, go to the guide linked in the description above. This is where you will find links to download the updated drivers for AMD and Nivida GPUs.

For AMD, you will want to select the the AMD CPU you have and download those drivers. You’ll want to repeat this if you have an AMD GPU as well. If you have a APU from AMD, meaning your CPU and GPU are combined, you will want to download the drivers for that APU.

After that, you can install the AMD drivers similarly to a program. Even if you think your AMD drivers are up-to-date, they still may not be or need to reinstalled anyway, so it’s always a good idea to install them just incase.

For Nvidia GPUs, you will use the Geforce Experience App. This is also linked in the article above, and it will let you automatically check for graphics driver updates and install them.

Generally, updating your graphics drivers will fix the Exit Code 1 error in Minecraft, specific with Forge if nothing else will. It is one of the most common solutions for fixing the Exit Code 1 crash that works time and time again.

With that being said, if you have any questions or additional solutions to fixing the Exit Code 1 error in Minecraft, let us know in the comments. We will try our best to help you out.

I have done everything to try to fix the issue. I have deleted all mods. I have deleted and reinstalled java and forge multiple times. I updated my driver. Tried it all again. Still won't work. I deleted minecraft several times yet I still cannot get it to work. I am at a complete loss of what to do now.

The AMD GPU solution was a life saver. I didn't even know that was something you had to manually update, to have peak game performance for a windows laptop. Thanks for the help!

Hello! Just wanted to say that the first issue helped! I looked at my mods folder and had a world edit mod that was outdated! I deleted it and now my other mods (replay mods) are working great! thank you!

So I've been having the exit code 1 problem for three days, and I've tried everything YouTube suggested as many have, none of them worked for me, though that shouldn't stop people for trying since they did work for a lot of other people, but also a lot of people have had the same problem I had so eventually I got tired of trying and shipped my problem off to my sister, she went to the curse forge support button thing and then typed in exit code 1, and into minecraft mod errors, and then she downloaded all the apps that said would help, you don't have to download all of them you can download one and see if it works and then move on to the next but anyway that worked, if this doesn't work for you, it might have to do with your device and not the app itself.

P.S I'm commenting this on every video that people said nothing worked.

was kinda skeptical about updating drivers since just couple of days ago updated NVIDIA ones, still looked up amd site and they also had adrenaline installer which auto-detects all drivers needed for your own machine, it searched pretty long for some drivers (don't they usually weigh a little) and also was installing for a while too, but at least minecraft run afterwards, so thanks!

I don't have any mods. I deleted my mods folder. I'm just trying to play 1.3, and it's giving me Exit Code 1. What is happening?

This helped me out, I had just made a custom modpack to play in my free time and I didn't know why I was getting this error, after going through the mods I realized that I had downloaded the wrong version of optifine.

I had this problem as well. My laptop has both Nvidia gpu and AMD integrated grafic card. I didn't change any settings on my computer since buying it and it seems that the automatic choosing for what programs use what GPU chose that Minecraft gets the integrated. And Minecraft didn't like that.

So my solution was to go to Nvidia control panel and set global gpu settings to Nvidia. That has solved the issue with exit code 1.

I'm having a odd issue with the SHC PVZ ZenGarden Mod. So the game Does load to the menu but when i go to load a world (with this mod and gecko labs alone) the world generation gets stuck at 100% forever, then when i close the game through task manager (the only way i can) i get error code 1. when i disable the mod and add 40 other mods including gecko labs (PVZ relays on Gecko Labs), the game loads fine. I'm confused on if this on my end or if the mod needs an update. (i really wanna try the mod)

I found a less satisfying solution which is to cut down on the amount of mods you have on a fresh profile. Sorry hope it helps
