While "Lion Guard" may kinda serve as a Lion King 3, or a mid-quel given it takes place between the gap in time in Simba's Pride (Lion King 2), it would've been pretty cool to just full circle this concept back when they were making many sequels and had this be the real part 3. P.S. this isn't dissing any angle, including if they maybe shyed away from bringing in humans being a concern since they had made Tarzan nail that well at the time and it would've been compared/considered redundant/etc. Only Lion King material I despise is that ugly af documentary remake nonsense.

The first-born son of King Simba and Queen Nala was long thought to be dead, but luckily he survived an attack by the mad lioness Zira, who tried to kill the little prince in revenge for her mate Scar.

The cub survived his injuries and grew up to return to his home. He is reunited with his parents, his sister, and meets his youngest brother, Kion, now also grown.
But most of all, he is delighted to see his childhood sweetheart, Vitani, who grew into a beautiful lioness, and who was different from her mother.
