Honestly NH is a really good base for the next game, if they breathe life with the quirkiness of the older games then we’ll have the best Animal Crossing by far

I really like how Palia handles the dialogue, where the villagers are referencing things that are going on in your specific playthrough. For example a villager could say "oh this person goes to this place every day at 5pm!" or "This person is hiding something, I think you should check it out". I think something like that for animal crossing villagers would be super cool!

The thing I like about old Animal Crossing is that money was hard to get, and we were just a normal person moving in with debt and having a normal job.

New Horizons was indeed a improvement from the older games, but only graphics and decoration wise. Remove the feature of putting furniture outside and most would see how much content NH lacks.
In the end i think it also depends on what you mostly play the game for. New Leaf it's my favorite because i'm way more interested in the life sim aspect of Animal Crossing, like building friendships with your villagers, fishing, and taking everything at your own pace. New Horizons is definitely perfect for those who likes decorating and cares about aesthetic. I really hope in the next game we will have a balance for the two types of players.

I wholeheartedly agree that new horizons is the best entry in the series by far. It really does feel like the beginning of a new era and set the tone for the next few animal crossing games to come, and I think that’s a good thing. While old animal crossing is charming, it definitely wasn’t my kind of game. The lack of being able to decorate outside, the randomness of the villagers, And the absolute GRIND it took to get anything done. It just wasn’t for me. I definitely think there could be improvements to new horizons to cater to all the players who preferred older animal, crossing games, but that doesn’t stop me from loving it as a whole. I see so many people complaining about how awful new horizons is, and I can understand that there’s room for improvement, but just because you’re nostalgia blind doesn’t mean it’s a bad game.

2:39 I think New Leaf had a good move-in mechanic. Villagers could move in randomly, but they never could move in on top of paths. That made it so stuff you decorated couldn't be destroyed while keeping the charm of random move ins.

9:27 the issue is they don't ask you to do anything anymore. When I played New Leaf, they asked me to do something basically every time I talked to them. In New Horizons, they just * don't *

5:01 “a turning point” where they ripped out hundreds of items from series, themes, and sets, removed whole characters and diminished the game as a whole (barley and shop upgrades, removing Resetti and Gracie etc)

I really agree with the take about complete games with no updates. It’s honestly absurd to expect every game to be a forever game. Sometimes it’s just a nice single player experience that you enjoy, complete, and move on with, and that’s okay. Obviously Animal Crossing is a bit different in structure but it’s okay if it doesn’t have 1000’s of hours worth of content. The expectations of getting that much new content are pretty lofty ones to put on the developers.
