This was actually really informative Ricky. Legit I've skated since I was a kid and I don't think I've actually ever cleaned bearings before. Just every once in a while I'd break one or notice they were really really gunked up and I'd buy a whole new set cus I'm that lazy. I can def see this vid being super useful to people that are short on cash or don't have a local skateshop where they can get new ones quick tho. In the end spendin like a lil over 10 bucks on alcohol and bearing lubricant is a better deal for the money in the long run. Like as long as you don't break one you can keep a set of bearings good for quite a while

Ricky has a gift for teaching. Legit the best tutorial on this, short and sweet and actually tells you the best ways to do it and how the bearings work. Good job dude

This is something there isn't alot of information about. Even your $20 reds need cleaning. Too many people just buy new bearings,
and never wear in their bearings and clean them for maximum efficiency.
Good one Ricky. 👍

You install them with the shield inside the wheels. The factory sealed side keeps out the dirt. The removable shield side is for lubricating. Because you can’t lubricate through the factory sealed side.

In Sweden we have "Sewing Machine Oil" and it works really well if you don't have other lubricants.

I rub skate wax around the outside edge of the bearing and it makes the bearings pop in way easier and way easier to take out

A note if you reside in germany. While Isopropyl is indeed the Nr.1, tainted Ethanol (Brenn-Spiritus) or Lighter-Fluid (Feuerzeug-Benzin) does the trick. Problem is: ethanol isn't sold anymore in regular markets. Lighter Fluid is still cheaper than Isopropyl but leaves a film on the surface - where with ethanol you could have just burned it out and use a microfibre-fleece to remove the residue, with lighter-fluid it won't work good enough. So Isopropyl remains; for private use you get it in medical pharmacies (Apotheken) solely. It is expensive (due to being pure), but if you use the cylinder your bearings originally came in, the box of a photo-film (80s kids ...) or the capsule inside a Kinder-Surprise-Egg/Ueberraschungs-Ei, the standard 15ml issued is more than enough to fill those put bearings in and shake until ye dumb. Scrub with a toothbrush. Clean it with a microfibre-cloth. Done. You can filter the sud by pouring it through a coffee-filter or a cotton-pad for face-cleansing and reuse it on the next run.

Hope it helps!

Carb cleaner is also amazing it comes in a can with a long straw like tube that you can spray. Just pop the shields and spray them with the Carb cleaner it's the stuff you use for cars. Just let them dry all night after doing that then stick some speed cream in and there good as new

keeping bearings clean is super important if you want to extend the life of your bearings. dirt and particles can (sometimes) mess with the shape of the ball bearings, effecting the life/spin of the bearing. both bronson and bones sell their own versions of a bearing cleaning kit if youre looking for a "proper" cleaning unit. :)

Quack wax for the win!!! I was the first ever Australian (Melbourne) customer from the legends! I hold that proudly 😂😂

So much lubricant, Bones say use 1-2 drops per bearing lol

I actually always used a skate tool to seat bearings using the 9/16 side. I have used trucks or a Phillips screw driver to remove bearing.

If you used the spacers, you can tighten them all the way down and your bearings will last longer.

Didn't know I can use alcohol to clean my bearings good looking out Ricky 🤙🏽

Lock deicer / graphite is boss, you don’t even have to take the cover off, it has a little high pressure straw and you give them a spin and spray while they’re spinning and they seem to enter hyper spin mode and so smooth

Just did this last night. Was fun! Did it exactly the same way you did! Didn’t have any speed cream tho so I used a Teflon dry lube. Works pretty good and a substitute. Obviously not as good but better than nothing at all. (Witch apparently some people think is a good idea? TF?) lol.

i use spacers in between the bearings. earlier i used to put in there bearing grease but it was not the best picked up a lot of dirt and made the bearings last less longer in between the cleanings. Nowdays i put a few droo of speed cream onto the truck bolt where the spacer goes. It is much better.
