Homosexual animal behavior as a moral standard.

I've heard this argument a surprising number of times. The idea is that animals do something in the wild and we should therefore think that it's an acceptable human practice. But we can see really quickly how this logic falls apart, especially when we consider that God exists and has designed us for His purposes and intentions. You aren't just another animal. God made you in His image and calls you to live holy.

It's not that, "it's natural therefore its okay"
It's generally a response to someone who has called it unnatural. So it's more like "it's natural therefore it's not unnatural"

People pointing out that homosexuality is found in nature are not claiming that, that proves it’s moral they are countering the argument often made that it’s unnatural and therefore bad.

No Mike, when people say that animals do gay sex, it is usually not so much saying that its natural therefor its good, it is usually in response to Christians saying its unnatural. It is often Christians who use the nature logic. It is good that you acknowledge that logic is wrong.

This is weird because I don’t think I’ve ever heard someone say ‘because animals do it, it’s okay’. When people point out that animals also engage in same sex relationships, it’s usually a response to someone claiming that homosexuality is ‘unnatural’. Not as a direct justification for it. The justification would be that it isn’t harming anyone, and creating more well being by allowing people to love who they want to love with consent.

It is not accurate to say that animals can steal things. Animals cannot steal things because human laws do not apply to animals. Animals are not considered to be capable of having criminal intent.

The only time I've ever heard an Atheist point out that animals have homosexual relationships is after a Theist incorrectly says that humans are the only species to do so. Nobody is saying that animals doing something makes it OK for humans to do that thing.

Everything you described animals doing still applies to humans in some way

1 - There have been cannibals in history and it's very likely there are still ppl doing so, even to ones own children, even if it's disgusting to think about

2 - Ppl steal things all the time, everyday, not only animals are capable of those actions

Sure stealing and/or cannibalism is very much not okay but it's only showing that we still relate to animals in those aspects. Homosexuality occurs in the wild so why are we, as just another species of creature, not allowed to feel how we feel

"Animals do it too" would surely be a terrible moral argument. However it can be used alongside with other arguments from psychology or neurosciences to show that homosexuality is biological, not a human construct, and after all, not a matter of choice.
The moral side of this is that telling homosexuals that their sexuality is sinful and they should be heterosexuals won't make them heterosexuals. It can however make frustrated, anxious, self-hating and suicidal homosexuals. However leaving them living a fuller life having loving relationships with each other would result in happier homosexuals.
