Why Spartacus is not the greatest gladiator

It is a long held belief that Spartacus was the greatest gladiator in history.

Yet there exists no account of his exploits in the gladiatorial arena.

So how did he become so famous for being a gladiator?

Well it would seem that modern pop culture is responsible for the spread of misinformation. One example of this is the 1960 film Spartacus.

You see, The evidence we have so far suggests he was a roman soldier who deserted, was later captured and sold into slavery where for two years he trained to fight as a gladiator.

He would eventually escape, free and recruit some 100,000 slaves and defeat two Roman legions before being killed in battle.

The truth is he was a great charismatic leader and a smart tactician who just happens to have been a gladiator.

How do you think he would have wanted to be remembered?

A slave that kills for entertainment?, Or a man that freed 100,000 slaves and stood up to the might of Rome eventually dying in battle as a free man?.

OK so Spartacus wasn’t the best gladiator he just freed 100, 000 men. Makes sense. Plus he didn’t even say Flamma was the best. Tbh Spartacus was easily hands down the best enslaved gladiator who ever lived. He killed more, for good than flamma ever did

It makes sense that they would of censored his exploits in the arena as to not cause panic amongst their own troops. Spartacus is by far the deadliest gladiator, he killed far more than any other, be it indirectly or directly.

You all need to chill with the jokes theres a time to he serious in life.

Freed 100k slaves then proceeds to question his authenticity.

For most modern soft western men it is nigh impossible to imagine battling other men face to face with weapons up close and personal, seeing their eyes and smelling their sweat, and only one of you will walk away ⚔️ Bayonet trench fighting and hand to hand battles in Stalingrad would be some of the closest 🩸 🙏

How does the 1960 film spread misinformation? In the movie he only fought once and it was in private.

I think the difficulty of the battles should be weighed in here.

Flamma is mentioned a lot, but this guy fought with a shield and sword against a trident and net.

Shield and sword is way easier to win with, as you can block and counter at the same time.

Leading a succesful campaign against Roman legions for years seems harder to do imo. Thus my vote goes to Spartacus being greater.

Well, Spartacus was a good gladiator.. or he wouldn't have survived. Most written documents weren't made by people who were his fans... it was the exact opposite. He embarrassed Rome, and they didn't want anyone to remember that. Most of the historical documents about the wars at that time are considered inaccurate due to Roman bias.

You claim he only had good ppl skills? He had to have balls and back then fully if he convinced other slave fighters to risk death because they escaped and conquered 2 experienced Roman Legions.

How would anyone be able to even measure who the greatest gladiator was?

because when the original character Spartacus passed away after that first series their replacement sucked. Andy Whitfield he played his role to the T. And that's only as far as the movie goes. In real life I wouldn't know but I will check out the history.

Wasn't his body never found, so he might not have died in battle?

Good argument. Well we live in a degenerate timeline, so really nobody cares about the truth or about respect. All they care is to be distracted. Those worms ..
