WHen Gods of Arena was wrapping up its production, Andy Whitfield’s cancer resurfaced, and he announced that he would no longer be able to play the title character, Spartacus. On the last day of filming in the square, the other gladiators, lead by Manu Bennet and Antonio Te Maioha performed the Haka in Andy’s honor. Also, when Andy Whitfield died in 2011, he was 39 years old, and it turns out that that could’ve been the same age that his character died in real life. Experts have found that Spartacus was somewhere between 37 and 40 when he died in 71 B.C.

He was so much better than the other actor that replaced him, needles to say his chemistry with Crixus was so much more believable it looked like they were real rivals before they became allies that's how good his performance was, I wish he could have finished the series off.

The season with Andy Whitfield was phenomenal.He portrayed the character of Spartacus so wel and with such nuance and intensity, that when they replaced him(obviously they had no choice) in the second season. It Unfortunately lost the emotional connection I felt for his character.It was so sad that we lost Andy to cancer. He WAS Spartacus to me.I loved the first season.It is one of my favorite series of all times, bar none.A masterpiece as far as I am concerned!RIP Andy I would have loved to see you play Spartacus for 10 more seasons.You where incredible.You where Spartacus!!!

Not only did they die at the same age but notice their years of birth and death. 111 BC and 71 BC compared to 1971 and 2011. Crazy right? But it's not all, Andy's days of months of birth and death 17 and 11. If there is reincarnation that's the closest I ever saw.
