The tip to stay outside metropolitan centres to save on hotel is not wise because you will have to face the rush hour commute. I would rather not save 35% of cost than wasting time commuting during peak times.

Although the exchange rate on the Japanese Yen is good now, the inflation in Japan and higher mark up by Japanese food stalls and shop owners on their products will come back to square one which means you have to pay a higher price for the service and products that you want.

Japan has always been a top favourite destination for tourists. Now it is even more visited after the Yen turns favourable and Japan is now very very overcrowded with tourists especially Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo, so much so that the local Japanese are resenting foreign visitors! 😅 Many of my fellow Singaporean friends who just came home from Japan regretted making the trips. They said everywhere you go, you see people and more people. They end up having to queue for services most of the time, especially at the touristy areas and airport. Thank goodness I did my Japan trips 5-10 years ago which was much more sane at that time.

I took some local trains along the coast. Very cheap and beautiful views.

Don't be pressured by consumerism.
We can go on vacation and not have to shop.
It even creates less waste which, whether you believe in global warming or not, adds to pollution.

I don't think it is wise to save on the hotel to stay in a further area away from the city centres. Shinjuku is the world busiest train station and the most connected. Hotel costs are high for a reason - it is because of its connectivity. Japan days are short. Shops open at 8am or earlier and they can close pretty early like 7pm or 8pm. if you are there on a holiday and u spend 45 min rides to and from, you end up with alot shorter days of holiday.

Besides, if the hotels are deemed too expensive for one, there are always budget options like capsule hotel or air bnb to consider.

I won't scrimp on the location.

To put this into relation to singapore - it is like asking you to stay in a far away hotel at changi or pasir ris and yet you spend most of your time in the CBD area. you will end up spending at least an hour and a half to commute everyday

The only off peak now is in summer and you probably won't want to be in Japan, maybe just Hokkaido.

Cant believe so many people still turn blind eye to the daily disposal of nuclear water at fukushima to "enjoy" the "wonders" at the risk of their health.... Good Luck 😂
